The all-in Melbourne Cup odds on Revelare to win the iconic two-mile showdown this November have been slashed following his golden ticket win in the 2025 Lexus Archer Stakes at HQ on Saturday.

The Robert Hickmott trained son of So You Think became the latest horse to earn a ballot free ride into the $10 million Melbourne Cup field on Tuesday November 4 with his half-length victory in the Group 3 $300,000 Lexus Archer Stakes (2500m) on Makybe Diva Stakes Day.
The emerging stayer stamped his ticket to the 2025 Melbourne Cup with a determined victory delivering Hickmott a golden opportunity to chase his third Cup triumph following his earlier success with Green Moon (2012) and Alamandin (2016).
Revelare’s path to the Archer Stakes was carefully managed. After missing the Roy Higgins due to illness earlier in the year, he bounced back with a win over 2000m at Caulfield second-up on August 30. That performance gave Hickmott the confidence to stretch him out to 2500m for the first time, a test he passed with flying colours.
Sent out as the $2.90 favourite, he overcame a strong challenge from Mormona to win by a neck, with Sayedaty Sadaty finishing third.
Ridden confidently by Declan Bates, the five-year-old son travelled sweetly throughout and surged to the lead in the final stages, stopping the clock at 2:40.28 on a good surface.
Hickmott was full of praise for the horse’s development and the team behind him.
“He’s just a natural athlete,” he told Racing Victoria.
“You wouldn’t give two bob for him the way he works at home, but he saves it for race day.
“There’s still a lot more to come with him. His coat is four weeks away from coming through, and he can dapple up quickly.
“He’ll need to keep that gradual improvement which he’s doing but I couldn’t be happier with today and Declan’s ride again was sensational.”
Bates was equally impressed by the winner.
“I think I gave myself goosebumps there, or he did,” he said.
“We talked coming here up in trip back to Flemington that we would see an improvement again, and yeah, that was surely the case.
“Just the way he took me there again, he just travels like a good horse, and I believe he’s a very good horse.”
“You certainly wouldn’t be swapping. him for anything. As I said, he’s just got all the attributes. He’s a big, powerful animal, he’s tactically versatile, and he’s got more improvement to come.”
The team are now weighing up next-up options including the Group 3 $350,000 The Bart Cummings (2500m) back at Flemington on October 4, although Hickmott is mindful of trying to avoid a Melbourne Cup weight penalty.
“One of his biggest adages was trying to beat the handicapper,” he said.
“We could cop another Group 3 win if he happened to win The Bart Cummings, but the next one’s a tricky one.
“I’m not saying he could win a Caulfield Cup but if he did and cop a two-kilo penalty, that’s something that would have to come into consideration.
“I’ll have a good chat with everyone and see which way we go after that, but we’d still have to win The Bart Cummings and win but time will tell.”
The opening leg of the coveted Spring Cups Double, the Group 1 $5 million Caulfield Cup (2400m) is set for October 18 and Revelare is currently listed as a $17 chance.
Shocking (2009) was the last horse to complete the Lexus Stakes – Melbourne Cup double when the former was run on Derby Day just a few days prior to the famous Flemington feature.
The price on Revelare to be the next has firmed notably with the galloper in from $26 to $17 in the latest Melbourne Cup betting odds at Ladbrokes.com.au.
