Group 1 placed filly Within The Law will jump one of the best in betting looking to return to winning form in the 2025 Furious Stakes on Chelmsford Stakes Day in Sydney this weekend.

The next event in the Princess Series of races for Group 1 Flight Stakes bound fillies, this season’s Group 2 $300,000 Furious Stakes (1200m) features a quality field of in-form three-year-olds.
A one-time favourite now on the third line of the Furious Stakes odds at $5.50 through Ladbrokes.com.au is Lucky Vega filly Within The Law who handled herself well fresh last time out here on a Heavy (10) track.
After failing to finish the Golden Slipper when things went amiss and she threw jockey Jason Collett from the saddle, she went on to run two subsequent placings as a juvenile in the autumn including her brave second to Nepotism in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m).
Picking up where she left off in her three-year-old debut she ran a nice second first-up under a length beaten in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) with improvement to come on a less rain-affected track on Saturday.
Speak Fondly (2015) was the last filly to complete the Furious Stakes – Flight Stakes double.
Within The Law is currently listed at a pre-nomination quote of $6 in the 2025 Flight Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au, a price sure to firm if she salutes this weekend.
New favourite in the markets having attracted early money from the punters is Apocalyptic at $4.60 with Michael Freedman‘s untapped daughter of Extreme Choice having just her second career start.
On debut last December she won here over 1100m and has had three subsequent trials to bring her on fitness-wise.
Beautifully bred, she was very game to take out her first run when held up on the straight to still get the better of subsequent Magic Millions 2YO Classic placegetter Gallo Nero.
She’s an intriguing edition to the field and getting support, but with eight months since her debut and her trial performances only fair, even from the rails with Tommy Berry riding there are other more experienced fillies in the field that appeal at the price.
Second elect looking to keep the wins coming is the in-form Brad Widdup trained Silver Shadow winner Savvy Hallie.
This ultra-consistent Hellbent filly made it back-to-back victories after saluting fresh on a Heavy (9) at Newcastle by over five lengths only to frank that form with her convincing three-quarter length Silver Shadow success.
She beat a few of these same rivals home that day on Heavy going and, while the bottomless conditions certainly aided her there, she shapes up as a winning hope again with confidence and momentum on her side.
Savvy Hallie may have performed her best on rain-affected going, but she was also eye-catching as a juvenile in the Group 2 Percy Sykes running second to Tempted on a Good (4) Randwick track so also has versatility.
Dame Giselle (2020) was the last filly to complete the Silver Shadow Stakes – Furious double that Savvy Hallie looks to complete this weekend.
A further two in the Furious field are currently under $10 for the win with Agarwood ($7.50) and the fellow Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott trained early market mover Stardom ($9.50).
Wootton Bassett filly Agarwood won her opening two career starts back in May before her disappointing sixth fresh in the Silver Shadow making her a risky bet with heavy improvement needed to stay in touch with these fillies again.
Stablemate Stardom meanwhile is a progressive daughter of Zoustar who kicks off her spring in the Group 2.
She went out a back-to-back winning juvenile with wins at Wagga and Scone, the latest a Listed event on May 17, and her lead-up Hawkesbury trial victory caught the eye.
The 2025 Furious Stakes is the first of Saturday’s Group race in Sydney set to run as Randwick Race 6 at 2:45pm (AEST).
