The final Group 1 race on the Golden Slipper Day card went the way of the punters with the Nathan Doyle trained three-year-old, Private Harry, proving too good for his older rivals with a smart win in The Galaxy 2025 results at Rosehill.

The undefeated Harry Angel colt came into this year’s Group 1 $1 million The Galaxy (1100m) a four-time winner from as many career runs and remains unbeaten following his impressive performance at elite level in the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival sprint showdown.
“I dreamt of this as a kid, all I wanted to do was train horses. The Group 1, Ash, the staff, Kurrinda, thanks so much. I can’t stop shaking,” an emotional Doyle told Sky Thoroughbred Central.
“We are still at the stables at 9 o’clock at night just to check in that he’s OK.
“You just don’t want anything to go wrong. You get these opportunities with these horses, and they’re once in a lifetime.
“I’m just glad it’s all panned out. They said we were only scratching the surface with him, and we still are.”
Ridden by Ashley Morgan from barrier six on 53kg, Private Harry ($3.30F) was outstanding in his first Group race test.
“He’s so good, he’s such a free roll and a quick horse,” Morgan said.
“When I straightened up, he sees that straight and he just grabs and goes, you know, and the scary thing is he will improve for it.”
Private Harry had shown his class back in early January at the Sunshine Coast when beating home last year’s Golden Slipper winner Lady Of Camelot by a big margin in the lucrative $3 million Sunlight 3YO Plate in race record time.
Kept fresh since but retaining fitness with a subsequent winning hit out at his home track at Newcastle, the up-and-comer showed exactly what he was made of handling the big race meeting pressure on Saturday in style.
“It’s his fifth race start. I’ve done all the work with him at home, and even when I got him down here, it looked like a run short to me,” Doyle said.
“He’s still carrying a bit of condition, there’s a bit of improvement left to come.
“Whatever you do today, don’t be disappointed because I think he’ll still run short.
“For him to do that, he’s just bombproof. He just idles up to them, and he can ride a hot speed, and he showed today he can take a sit as well.
“I think that’s where he breaks their hearts. He just can eyeball up in front on a hot speed and just boot off it, and they just can’t chase him.
“They’ve got to run exceptional sectionals. Even Briasa, they went a quick tempo and loomed into it, but he just keeps fighting. He’s just got that will to want to win races. It’s amazing.”
In a huge thrill for Doyle and Morgan who both celebrated their first Group 1 victories with the result, Private Harry came with a powerhouse run down the outside with just over 200m to go, wearing down the front running Front Page.
It was a massive effort from the young horse, the first three-year-old The Galaxy winner since Russian Revolution in 2017, as he ran down Matthew Dale‘s evergreen eight-year-old Front Page to win by three-quarters of a length.
In third completing The Galaxy 2025 trifecta with a good run late was Matthew Hoysted‘s 40/1 outsider Uncommon James who was only a length off the winner.
Private Harry could potentially race again at Randwick on April 5 in the Group 1 $3 million TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) chasing The Galaxy / TJ double for the first time since La Baraka (1998).
The latest 2025 TJ Smith Stakes odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au have him at $5 as the equal second-elect behind Joliestar ($4).
