UPDATE: #9 Lady Of Camelot (6) has been scratched from the Inglis Sires’ field due to the Heavy (10) track.
Lady Of Camelot chases a Group 1 juvenile double this weekend with the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Golden Slipper winning filly one of the best in Inglis Sires’ 2024 betting.
Saturday sees four elite level autumn races take place at Royal Randwick as The Championships gets underway in Sydney including the Group 1 $1 million Inglis Sires’ (1400m) for the two-year-olds.
The Inglis Sires’ field features 10 youngsters including the Golden Slipper champ Lady Of Camelot who is out to do the double for the first time since fellow filly Fireburn in 2022.
The consistent daughter of Written Tycoon was good in her narrow upset in the $5 million Slipper at Rosehill following a close second at Caulfield in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) the run prior.
She has her second start at Randwick and her first since a fourth on debut to Manaal in the Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) in September last year.
Lady Of Camelot needs to extend an extra 200m now and is drawn barrier six with Blake Shinn in the saddle.
Current Inglis Sires’ betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au have her as the $4.50 second elect behind stablemate Storm Boy.
Storm Boy sits top of the Inglis Sires’ odds at $2.80 for the Waterhouse/Bott stable, the Justify colt out to atone for his third in the Slipper as the beaten favourite.
He was undefeated prior to that loss having won his opening four career starts including an impressive 2.5 length victory at the Gold Coast in January’s $3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m).
Storm Boy was short to win the Golden Slipper after an impressive Group 2 Skyline Stakes winning lead-up, but had to settle for third 1.5 lengths off the winning filly.
James McDonald comes aboard in a plus for the youngster now as he looks to return to return to his best form.
Waterhouse & Bott have a stranglehold over the Inglis Sires’ field saddling-up a further two runners with Group 3 Canonbury Stakes winning Snitzel colt Prost ($15) and I Am Invincible colt Anode ($15) in his Group 1 debut.
In an open market there are currently three other single-figure hopefuls with the Michael Freedman-trained Group 2 Sweet Embrace winning Tassort filly Manaal ($6) who is unbeaten at Randwick, the Godolphin-raced Street Boss colt Traffic Warden ($6) coming off a big win at Flemington in the Group 2 VRC Sires’ over this distance, and Matt Laurie’s Golden Slipper runner-up Coleman ($9) on the up-and-up.
