  • 1st: #1 Front Page ($5.50)
  • 2nd: #7 Opal Ridge
  • 3rd: #3 Far Too Easy

The Matthew Dale-trained defending champion Front Page ($5.50) was huge leading all-the-way before giving a tremendous kick with 250m to go to salute by nearly two lengths and go back-to-back in The Kosciuszko 2023 results.

The beaten favourite Opal Ridge ($2.80F) wore down the margin over the final furlong after winning hoop Tyler Schiller had Front Page out to a nearly five length lead on the home straight.

Far Too Easy ($7.50) rounded out The Kosciuszko trifecta in third was last year’s runner-up Far Too Easy.

Front Page won last year’s race for Geoff Duryea before returning to win his first-up run for his new stable.

“Geoff (Duryea – previous trainer) and the team, what they’ve done with this horse before getting him to me, I’m in awe,” Dale told Sky Thoroughbred Central.

“They told me every little thing I needed to know so that I could be well prepped and have him as good as I could here today.

“It’s been a little bit stressful, the last few weeks, but wow what a win.”

Schiller was thrilled with the horse’s efforts and was full of post-race praise.

“I know he’s always shown it. He went on from the Cossie last year and went close in Group 1’s without being too far off them. He’s always got the ability and tries his guts out,” he said.

“It was great last year to do it for Geoff but they’ve passed the baton onto Matt Dale and he’s done a terrific job. I can’t say he’s improved the horse but he’s got him going as good as he can.Gee he’s a terrific animal.”

“He got control of the race very easy this year. I thought he quickened well from the top of the straight and then he just kept building, he felt like he never stopped.

“Last year he felt like he was a little bit reluctant to go and there were a few chasing but not this year he put them away very easy.”
