This year’s edition of the Group 1 $5 million Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) will run with an under-capacity field with the two official withdrawals from the world’s richest race for two-year-olds.

Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott were forced to withdraw the widely-drawn Red Resistance (17) due to an elevated temperature.

The Group 3 Canonbury Stakes winning Russian Revolution colt was one of the best in Golden Slipper betting tipped to inject the pace into the race second-up after finishing a narrow runner-up in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) on March 4.

The other scratched Golden Slipper contender this autumn is the Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou-trained Trapeze Artist filly Facile.

She was taken out of the race on Friday afternoon on vet’s advice having been found to be lame in the near foreleg.

Updated Golden Slipper odds at Ladbrokes.com.au have James Cummings’ Silver Slipper – Todman Stakes winner Cylinder as the easing $3.70 favourite in gate three with James McDonald to ride.

Only two other runners are at single-figures for the win with Annabel Neasham’s undefeated Reisling Stakes winning filly Learning To Fly ($7) and King’s Gambit ($8.50) for Team Snowden.

Current Golden Slipper market movers getting some race day love from the punters include Ben & JD Hayes’ Blue Diamond champion Little Brose ($13) and Platinum Jubilee ($12) for the Waterhouse/Bott stable who was last running second to Cylinder in last month’s Silver Slipper.

Some of the big drifters getting out in value include Chris Waller’s Pago Pago Stakes winner from last weekend Shinzo ($21) drawn the rails and the Michael Freedman-trained Blanc De Blanc ($41) on the quick back-up off a Magic Night second last Saturday.
