The bookies are tipping a Group 1 double for Godolphin at Royal Randwick on Saturday with the stable’s class filly In Secret heading markets on the Surround Stakes 2023.

The Group 1 $600,000 Surround Stakes (1400m) for the ATC Oaks-bound fillies serves as the entrée in Sydney this weekend taking place one run before the James Cummings-trained Anamoe jumps odds-on second-up in the 2023 Chipping Norton Stakes.
Also short in markets for an elite level win is the fellow Cummings-trained In Secret who heads Surround Stakes betting at $2.15 and firming through Ladbrokes.com.au.
The ultra-consistent I Am Invincible three-year-old was excellent in the spring when runner-up behind Jacquinot in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill before her Flemington success down the straight by two lengths in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m).
Fresh she was in the winners’ stall again this time narrowly saluting in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.
She returns to the track fitter for the run but going up in distance looking to do the double for the first time since Nakeeta Jane (2019).
In Secret was under a quarter-length off Jacquinot, recent protest winner of Melbourne’s CF Orr Stakes this prep, over 1400m in the Golden Rose and should relish the distance against her own kind in the Surround Stakes.
Jockey Hugh Bowman has the prized mount in the Surround Stakes this year chasing his second win in the event after his 2012 win on Streama.
Thirteen fillies make-up the Surround Stakes final field but only one other runner is currently under double-figures with the Chris Waller-trained market mover Zougotcha in from $6 to $4.60.
Waller won his first Surround with Hinged (2022) last year, the mare taking on Anamoe in the Chipping Norton this season, and is after back-to-back wins on Saturday.
He launches a two-pronged attack on the field led by Zougotcha out in barrier 11 with the airborne James McDonald in the saddle.
The Zoustar filly is first-up and has won both her previous first-up assignments to date.
She boasts an outstanding Randwick track record of three wins and a second from four runs after completing the Silver Shadow – Tea Rose – Flight Stakes treble last time in.
Her Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) win in the wet was huge when she had two lengths to spare over She’s Extreme on the line.
Zougotcha has been brought on fitness-wise with two nice lead-up trials and is the definite danger on Saturday.
Her stablemate Madame Pommery ($16) meanwhile is drawn well mid-field in gate six and looks a forgotten chance in the race second-up.
The No Nay Never chestnut won the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield by 1.5 lengths with McDonald aboard on a bottomless Heavy (10) track in the spring on the back of her sixth to Zougotcha in the Flight Stakes.
She resumed in the Lighth Fingers running 1.46 lengths off In Secret at 30/1 and could surprise a few again over further on the weekend.
The others tipped the most likely to score an upset include the Annabel Neasham-trained Light Fingers Stakes runner-up Sunshine In Paris ($10) drawn barrier three for jockey Ryan Maloney and the lightly-raced Tavistock filly Ruthless Dame ($15) from the Maher/Eustace stable.
The Surround Stakes 2023 is scheduled as Randwick Race 7 at 4:00pm (AEDT) on Saturday’s bumper 10-race card.
