2020 Magic Millions 3YO Guineas Odds Firm on Alligator Blood After Barriers

The stranglehold Alligator Blood has over Saturday’s Magic Millions 3YO Guineas 2020 tightened on Tuesday morning following the star local’s barrier 11 draw for the $2 million feature at the Gold Coast.

The David Vandyke-trained son of All Too Hard is into $1.80 to win the $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) this weekend with the next best in betting being Diamond Thunder at $11 through Ladbrokes.com.au.

A winner of seven of his eight career starts to date, Alligator Blood’s only loss was the devastatingly close second to Super Seth last October in the iconic $2 million Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas (1600m).

He has done everything right this prep winning both his lead-up races at Eagle Farm by big margins, the latest being the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1400m) by two lengths.

The Vo Rogue Plate – Magic Millions 3YO Guineas double was completed by both Pierata (2017/18) and Boomsara (2018/19) and the money is on Alligator Blood to repeat the feat for the third straight season.

The Magic Millions 3YO Guineas field is set to run at a capacity 16 starters and the red-hot favourite is likely to come into barrier eight with the emergencies out.

Three-from-three over the 1400m distance of the set weights plus penalties event, Alligator Blood will again be ridden by his regular hoop Ryan Maloney on 57kg.

The topweight with 58kg is the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Dubious drawn one closer to the fence (10) with James McDonald to ride.

The team are hoping for an atoning run by their Not A Single Doubt colt whose latest start produced a sixth to Hey Doc over in Perth’s Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) in late November.

As for the $11 second pick in Magic Millions 3YO Guineas betting, Dawn Approach gelding Diamond Thunder and his hoop Josh Parr suffered a wide barrier 20 draw, the second widest of the race.

First-up winner of the Wyong Magic Millions 3YO & 4YO Stakes, Diamond Thunder was last seen running three lengths back fourth to Alligator Blood in the Vo Rogue Plate.

Brisbane’s Chris Anderson saddles-up the other best out of that key lead-up race with Dundeel gelding Profit having finished second in the Vo Rogue.

The galloper is right out to $15 for the rematch however with he and jockey Glen Boss drawing barrier 15.

The best fancied of the fillies in the mix is the lightly-raced It’s Kind Of Magic ($13) from the Sydney stables of Brent Stanley.

The daughter of So You Think has had four runs to date for two wins and a third in easier grade, the latest being a win over 1200m at The Valley carrying 58.5kg to victory on December 28.

She reunites with Brett Prebble in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas from a lovely barrier six draw and drops to 54kg.

Damien Oliver’s mount King Of Hastings is also being kept relatively safe in the markets at $15 after a barrier seven draw for the recent Flemington winner.
