Ten horses have been confirmed in the final field for Thursday’s Listed Rowley Mile (1600m) at Hawkesbury; offering punters terrific value from a betting perspective and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Arbeitsam has returned to racing in outstanding form this time in and remains a clear $1.50 favourite in 2017 Rowley Mile betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
Posting five wins and as many minor through only twelve career starts so far, Arbeitsam resuming this time for second in a Rosehill 1200m sprint on June 3rd, but failed to fire when he beat only one runner home in the Australian Turf Club BM73 (1400m) on June 17th.
Returning to winning form in the #TheRaces BM72 (1400m) on July 8th, the Snitzel gelding placed second in the Pro Rata ATC Membership BM74 (1800m) on July 15th and has since comfortably won both the Sydney Spring Carnival On Sale Plate (1400m) and the Merrylands Premiers Cup Prelude (1800m); the latter by five lengths.
The drop back is distance is something of a minor query, but the four-year-old is in outstanding condition and should prove extremely tough to beat under the conditions of the Rowley Mile.
Pelethronius failed to justify his favouritism and carry a race-high 61.5kgs when sixth in the Coffs Harbour Cup (1600m) last time out on August 3rd, but he has so-far attracted the greatest share of attention in Rowley Mile betting markets and has firmed onto the second line at current $4.80 odds.
Trialling well in the lead-up to his competitive return this time, Pelethronius stamped himself as one to watch when poking clear to win the Pure Blonde Premium Mid BM65 (1300m) on May 23rd, as a $17 shot.
Repeating the effort in the Bowermans Furniture BM72 (1400m) on June 12th, the Artie Schiller gelding won another two Sydney Saturday races over 1400m and 1500m leading into his Coffs Harbour Cup run.
Charged with carrying only 54kgs, Pelethronius will jump from the ideal barrier 4 and will be partnered by in-form hoop Corey Brown.
Interestingly figuring as the only other runner currently available at Rowley Mile odds of less-than $10, Kingsguard carries winning form into Thursday’s feature race and represents terrific value at a $9 quote.
A strong and consistent performer since resuming in May, Kingsguard returned to winning form in the #TheRaces BM77 (1500m) on July 1st, but failed to fire at his next start and finishing seventh behind Pelethronius.
Having struck the line well to beat a classy field including Tom Melbourne and Etymology in the Canterbury RSL Spring Preview (1400m) last time out on August 12th, the Rip Van Winkle gelding is rock-hard fit and will have conditions to suit on Thursday.
