The Peter & Paul Snowden-trained colt Invader is the headliner among the Champagne Stakes 2017 nominations for Randwick this Saturday, tipped to enjoy back-to-back Group 1 autumn wins.

The star support act on the All Aged Stakes Day card, the $500,000 Group 1 Moet & Chandon Champagne Stakes (1600m) attracted fifteen two-year-olds at nomination stage on Monday.

Heading the pre-field Champagne Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au is Team Snowden’s flying son of Snitzel, Invader paying $2.50 to hand co-trainer Peter Snowden a fourth win in the mile classic.

Snowden prepared previous Champagne Stakes winners Skilled (2010), Helmet (2011) and Guelph (2013).

This year he chases his maiden win in partnership with his son Paul and looks to have a genuine winning chance in Invader.

The youngster has been in flying form this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival winning two of his three lead-up runs, most recently the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on April 1.

The Sires’ Produce is the standout lead-up race into the Champagne Stakes producing nine of the past eleven winners, with the latest to do the double being the aforementioned Snowden-trained filly Guelph (2013).

Invader currently sits as the $2.50 clear favourite in all-in Champagne Stakes odds and the favourites have an outstanding recent record in the race winning five of the past six editions.

The other top fancy in futures Champagne Stakes betting at a current quote of $3.80 is the Michael Freedman-trained Husson filly Frolic.

Fillies won the Champagne Stakes three times on the trot from 2013-15 before the success of Prized Icon (2016) last season, Frolic a top chance to return the girls to glory.

The progressive daughter of Husson is a Group 2 winner having won the Reisling Stakes in the wet at Randwick in early March defeating She Will Reign.

She Will Reign turned the tables next-up however with Frolic second to her in the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m).

Frolic was then beaten five lengths when seventh to Invader in the Sires’ produce, a performance she is out to improve on this weekend getting out over a mile.

The other smart filly in the mix is Whispered Secret for last year’s winning trainer James Cummings.

The daughter of High Chaparral comes off back-to-back wins, including the Listed Fernhill Handicap (1600m) over the Randwick mile last Saturday.

Cummings’ prepared the colt Prized Icon to win the Fernhill Handicap – Champagne Stakes double last autumn, a feat he is out to repeat this season with Whispered Secret.

Also coming off a last-start win is the Lindsay Park-trained Street Cry colt Eshtiraak who saluted over 1500m at Mornington in easier class on March 25.
