Fifteen runners have been included in 2016 Sandown Guineas nominations; highlighted by the pending appearance of some of the season’s best three-year-olds at Ladbrokes Park (Sandown) on Saturday.
Godolphin colt Morton’s Fork has produced a number of smart efforts through three spring starts so far, and has been included in 2016 Sandown Guineas nominations.
Posting a career total of three wins and a further four minors through eight competitive starts, Morton’s Fork returned to the paddock for a brief freshen-up when he won the Hyland Race Colours 2.y.o Handicap (1400m) on July 16th, and resumed for a similarly-impressive win in the NGS Super Plate (1300m) on September 28th.
Having since placed fifth in the Listed Gothic Stakes (1400m) and second in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m), the Ad Valorem colt should prove tough to beat under the conditions of the Ladbrokes Sandown Guineas.
So Si Bon has been included in nominations for both the Group 2 Zipping Classic (2400m) and the Ladbrokes Sandown Guineas on Saturday.
Posting one win and two minors through seven career starts, So Si Bon made a credible transition to black type company when he ran sixth in the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) on September 24th.
Progressing to fifth in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m), the So You Think colt has continued to relish a step up in distance and has placed third in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase (2040m) and fourth in the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) most recently.
So Si Bon’s trainer Robbie Laing has dominated 2016 Sandown Guineas nominations after confirming a total of four runners in contention, including Missrock.
Missrock broke through for a maiden black type win in only her fourth career start; a dominant performance for success in the Group 3 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) during The Championships.
Running sixth in each of the Listed Cap D’Antibes Stakes (1100m) and Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m), the Fastnet Rock filly finished mid-pack in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) on October 10th.
Responding well for third in the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m), Missrock ran fifth in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) last week and should relish a step back in class this weekend.
The 2016 Ladbrokes Sandown Guineas final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
