Singaporean import Super One has perhaps displayed some of his best form to date at Adelaide’s Morphettville Racecourse this afternoon; leading from start to finish to win the Group 3 DC McKay Stakes (1100m) by more than a length.
Super One arrived in Australia prior to the 2015 Spring Carnival to reasonably high expectations after a standout debut preparation in Singapore, but failed to make much of an impact when second at Cranbourne first-up before placing eleventh in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) and returning to the paddock.
Drawn ideally in barrier 7 this afternoon, jockey Daniel Moor allowed the colt to stride forward from the gate and immediately take up the running; heading off the likes of Heart Of A Lion and I Am Gypsy.
Settling into a good rhythm and slowly the tempo noticeably at the bend, Moor allowed Super One ample time to balance upon arriving at the final straight before asking for an extra effort.
Kicking further clear with 200m to run, Super One was did drop a little distance in the dying stages of the DC McKay Stakes but was clearly the race’s class performer and claimed a fifth career win in only his seventh start; Daytona Grey and Heart Of A Lion rounding out the minors.
Super One immediately stamped himself as one to watch upon debuting for Michael Freedman in Singapore; taking out each of the Make Your Own Magic Stakes (1100m) and IRT Juvenile Stakes (1200m) before making a successful transition to black type racing with a comfortable win in the Group 2 Golden Horseshoe (1200m).
Repeating the dose in the Group 3 Juvenile Championship (1200m) in what would be his final Singapore start in July, Super One was transferred to the care of Lee and Anthony Freedman with a view towards major Australian black type targets.
Daytona Grey was rated little chance of success in the DC McKay Stakes but produced a typically-gusty performance for second while Heart Of A Lion’s successful return from injury continued with his credible performance for third.
