18 talented local stayers have been nominated for the Group 3 Queen’s Cup (2200m) at Ascot Racecourse in Perth this Saturday.
The Queen’s Cup has been recently upgraded to Group level and is one of five supporting black-type races running on Kingston Town Classic Day.
Of the 18 nominated horses set to tackle the 2200 metre race, two headline the field – God Has Spoken and Talent Show. Both horses have a HCP rating of 92 and will carry the top weight of 59kg, up to four kilos more than their rivals.
Neville Parnham’s eight-year-old horse God Has Spoken has run in an amazing 63 races, only winning eight. While he hasn’t scored a win since December 2011 in the Group 2 C.B. Cox Stakes (2100m), Playing God did finish runner-up in the Group 2 Perth Cup (2400m) later that month. He has also scored placings in the Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m), Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m), and Group 3 Strickland Stakes (2000m).
The horse returned to the Perth Cup in January this year, finishing just a short head-neck off the win in second place again.
His recent form leaves much to be desired, finishing end of the field in all four of his black-type race starts since October.
The yin to God Has Spoken’s yang is Talent Show. The eight-year-old mare has had 47 career starts, winning five. She last won the 2013 Perth Cup, which God Has Spoken finished dead last in, but hasn’t managed to grab a placing in any of her five starts this year. The mare was last seen running second last in the Listed Tattersall’s Cup (2100m) on November 22.
Adam Durrant’s Real Love is dually nominated for the 2014 Queen’s Cup and Listed Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m), both running on Saturday. Should she declare for the Queen’s Cup, the mare will carry one kilo less in weights.
The four-year-old has finished in the first three in all five of her last starts, including coming runner-up in the Listed Carbine of WA Stakes (1400m) last time out.
Listed Tattersall’s Cup (2100m) winner Global Flirt also features among the nominations for the Queen’s Cup and will get the chance to run against many of her rivals again seeing as 10 of the 14 Tattersall’s Cup runners feature in the Queen’s Cup nominations.
