The 2014 McNeil Stakeshas drawn a very even field of three-year-olds and is one of the most interesting betting races on the entire Caulfield card this weekend.
The Group 3 McNeil Stakes (1200m) has developed into a key lead-up race for the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) in recent years and the 2014 edition of the race is no exception, with several runners set to make the trip to Sydney in a fortnight.
Team Hawkes-trained Nostradamus was the early favourite in 2014 McNeil Stakes betting markets, but he has been scratched from the Group 3 event and he will now run in The Run To The Rose in Sydney, making the McNeil Stakes a very open race.
Talented filly Novel Dancer finished a luckless third in the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on August 16 and is the new favourite in the 2014 McNeil Stakes betting market with Ladbrokes, despite being the only filly in the field.
There is plenty of value in the Ladbrokes.com.au McNeil Stakes betting market and there is very little separating the other leading chances.
Stingray is currently on top of the second line of McNeil Stakes betting after he finished second in both the Mitchelton Wines Vase (1000m) and the Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on August 16.
Chivalry has not been seen at the races since he finished eighth in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1000m) in February, but he is available at a quote of $7, while there has been a massive amount of support for Awesome Rock, who opened at $26 and is now on the third of betting at $7.50.
There are plenty of winning chances in the Group 3 event and to help you earn a profit our team of horse racing experts have come up with their 2014 McNeil Stakes tips.
1st
#5 Chivalry ($7.00)
Chivalry showed plenty of talent as a juvenile, but he always looked like he was going to be a better horse as a three-year-old. The Street Cry colt is going into the McNeil Stakes first-up, but he has performed strongly in two recent jump outs and showed as a two-year-old that he is capable of sprinting well fresh. This is a very open race, but he is good value at his current quote.
2nd
#2 Boomwaa ($11)
If there is an on-pace bias at Caulfield tomorrow than Boomwaa will be the horse to beat in the McNeil Stakes. The talented gelding will be settled forward by jockey Craig Williams in the early stages of the race and he deserves a race win after finishing third in both the Mitchelton Wines Vase and Vain Stakes.
3rd
#10 Stingray ($6.50)
Stingray has been ultra-consistent in two race starts this preparation and it looks as though the step-up to 1200 metres will suit. The Kaphero colt finished second in both the Mitchelton Wines Vase and Vain Stakes and must be included in all exotic bets.
The Memsie Stakes is the feature race at Caulfield tomorrow and to celebrate Ladbrokes.com.au are offering a special Memsie Stakes promotion.
If you selection in the Memsie Stakes finishes second, Ladbrokes.com.au will refund your stake in the form of a free bet, which means you don’t have to back the winner to profit from the Memsie Stakes.
