Breaking through for a maiden race victory in the Murray Cox Handicap (1410m) at Flemington last time out, Morgan confirmed the All American colt has been nominated for this weekend’s Listed Taj Rossi Series Final (1600m) and is likely to return to the paddock for a brief spell before returning to work for spring.
“We’re just keeping a close eye on him. I think he’s a good horse so we don’t really want to go there if he’s not 100 percent,” Morgan said of Zebulon’s chances of an appearance at Flemington this weekend.
“At this stage we’re heading that way.”
Having been trained alongside notable two-year-old Eloping, Morgan said he has always considered Zebulon a Guineas contender and is confident he will handle the conditions come October.
“He had his early jump-outs at the same time as she did and they were always on a little bit of a par,” Morgan said.
“He has shown all the attributes that he could be a Guineas horse.
“That’s the race we’ll probably head for anyway. It becomes a bit different when spring comes along. A few horses jump out of the ground that you don’t know about, but at this stage he’s certainly a horse you would want to be heading that way.”
Debuting with an impressive turn of foot to finish second to break-away victor Zeletto in the Park Hotel Plate (1010m) on June 15th, Zebulon more than earned his position in a maiden stakes race this weekend when strolling home to win his last start by nearly two lengths.
