Waller Stables Featuring Heavily in Carlyon Stakes Nominations

A lot was expected of the talented four-year-old throughout the 2013 Spring Carnival, and despite claiming a strong victory in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes, was unable to live up to extreme hype and finished the season with a forgettable 20th in the Melbourne Cup on November 5th.

Waller revealed the Purrealist gelding, who has also been included in nominations for the Group 1 C.F Orr Stakes (1400m) will aim for a run at the Group 1 Australian Cup (3200m) on March 8th along with stablemate Foreteller, who has also been included in Carlyon Cup nominations.

“It was a bit of an anti-climax towards the end where he struggled to stay in the Melbourne Cup” Waller told RSN recently.

“His whole preparation is geared towards the Australian Cup.”

Foreteller produced a memorable run of form throughout the 2013 Spring Carnival, claiming the Makybe Diva Stakes (1600) ahead of resounding favourite Puissance De Lune before a strong second to Atlantic Jewel in the Caulfield Stakes (2000m) on October 12th.

Also included in nominations for the Carlyon Cup from the Waller stables is Moriarty.

The talented Justice System gelding has amassed an impressive 10 wins from 35 starts since debuting in 20, including a strong finish in the Group 2 Bacardi Hill Stakes at Randwick in September.

Hoping to shake off a relatively quiet end to 2013 and build off a reasonable barrier trial at Rosehill two weeks ago, Moriarty is likely to feature in the Carlyon Cup as Waller’s leading chance.

Trainer Mick Price’s talented import Pakal has also been included in 2014 Carlyon Cup nominations.

Claiming two starts in his native Germany before relocating to Price’s stables in early 2013, the five-year-old has more than found an appropriate home in Melbourne, producing two more strong victories many top-rate pieces of work in trials.
