Black Caviar has won her 15th race in a row
The record of 19 shared by Gloaming and Desert Gold is now looks well within reach as it seems there’s nothing left in the country that could possible challenge her.
Today it was left to just three rivals to try and bring her down but they never looked a hope as Doubtful Jack jumped to the lead with Black Caviar poised just off his shoulder.
Luke Nolen barely moved on her and she was already in front at the top of the straight and from there it was a battle for second as she strode away and won as she liked.
Doubtful Jack held on for second in front of Here De Angels and Scenic Shot but they weren’t even in the picture with Black Caviar the undisputed champion of Australia and probably the world.
From here she will move on to the Patinack Farm Classic where who knows how many will even bother turning up and after that maybe even a trip to Perth for the Winterbottom Stakes.
By then it should be 17 in a row and the world stage potentially awaits for the most popular horse since Phar Lap.
Today it was a mere training run but Peter Moody says he still can’t help but be nervous whenever she’s on track.
“It’s always good to put it behind you,” he said.
“It looked that way on paper but you’re always that little bit toey that things can go wrong.”
He says he’s enjoying every minute of the ride and now even he is struggling to believe the legacy she’s creating.
“It’s a wonderful story, it’s a dream come true, it’s just great to see the joy she brings people,” he said.
“She’s just great for the sport and I’m ever so grateful to be a part of it.”
He says he is very keen to get across to Perth so as many Aussies as possible can catch a glimpse of the wonder mare.
“The owners have always looked very much forward to showcasing her to Australia as have I,” he said.
“All roads lead to Perth hopefully.”
For Luke Nolen it’s another easy day at the office as he simply soaks in the journey for as long as he can.
“Just to find this one it’s extra special, I know it’s not going to last forever but I’m enjoying it,” he said.
He said while deep down he knew the race was won as they came off the turn, he still stays focussed until they hit the post.
“There’s still a job to do, I don’t get that complacent that far out,” he said.
“You get to reflect on all that after finishing, I get my 30 seconds to myself and I get to enjoy it.”
Not a huge amount of joy for punters but the best you could find was the $1.04 with online bookmaker Luxbet.
Sure it’s not the biggest payout ever but with Black Caviar, it’s safer than a European bank right now.
