Torio’s Quest on his way to winning the Queensland Guineas at Eagle Farm
Handing hoop Hugh Bowman his first win of the day, Torio’s Quest showed immense improvement from their last start failure at Randwick where they beat home just one other runner in a 1400m race.
Vet checked after the run, a Heavy Randwick track to blame for the galloper’s let down, Torio’s Quest was unfaultable in Brisbane when scoring their fifth win from 10 career starts today.
Winner of the Magic Millions 3YO Stakes – Magic Millions 3YO Guineas double during the summer, Torio’s Quest has now added a Group win to their commanding record and is being tipped as a horse to watch in the spring.
After having settled midfield in the Queensland Guineas, Torio’s Quest and Bowman burst clear on the straight to hit the lead in a lovely ride that saw them peel off the back of the leaders.
With 250m left to travel, Torio’s Quest raced away taking the result beyond doubt and bolting to a Guineas triumph.
The Kelso Wood-trained Benny’s Buttons battled on bravely for second three lengths back from the winner while Tim Martin’s Spot The Rock, who had been up near the front for the entire mile, finished a tight third.
Partelle has shown plenty of patience in Torio’s Quest who had failed to finish better than fourth in their four runs after the big win on the Gold Coast in the $1 million Magic Millions Guineas, and that commitment paid off in the Queensland Guineas.
“An old boss of mine once taught me a great lesson, J.B. Cummings saying ‘patience is free’,” Partelle said.
“I’m just really happy.
“The best of him is yet to come as he’s going to be a dynamic mile and a quarter horse.”
Partelle said he couldn’t wait for the spring in Melbourne to get Torio’s Quest on a dry track over 2000m.
