2010 Alister Clark Stakes Preview

Moonee Valley racecourse will come alive this Saturday when they host their much awaited William Reid Stakes Day for 2010.? The highlight event at the meeting is the $500 000 Group 1 William Reid Stakes, but there are also a number of other great black type events to entertain and excite the punters including the $200 000 Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes (1600m).

The 2010 Alister Clark Stakes has drawn a fine field of ten three-year-old colts and geldings keen to secure the Group 2 win and the lucrative $120 000 first prize.

Currently Linton and Extra Zero are fighting for favouritism with the bookies. The Robert Hickmott-trained Linton is sitting just ahead at $3.60 with David Hayes? Extra Zero at $3.80 for a win with Sportsbet.

A son of Galileo, Linton has had only two race starts and won his most recent over 1400m on January 31.

David Hayes also has Eraset and At The Heads engaged in the race. Eraset has secured the prized barrier one for the Alister Clark and has won three of his six starts to dates, while At The Heads will jump from barrier five.

Another highly fancied starter in the Alister Clark Stakes is the Peter Snowden-trained Offhanded. Currently third favourite at $4.60 for Saturday, the three-year-old Lonhro gelding is coming off a last start win at Randwick over 1400m and is aiming for his fourth victory from eight career starts.

Following Offhanded in the betting markets is Take The Rap at $8. Trained by Danny O?Brien Take The Rap claimed a brilliant victory last start in the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on January 30 but has drawn wide this Saturday with barrier ten.
