Wet Track No Worries for Ravi in Just Now Quality 2016

Co-trainer Paul Snowden is unconcerned about the Brisbane weather report ahead of the 2016 Just Now Quality at Eagle Farm Racecourse on Saturday with the stable’s representative Ravi proven on Heavy going.

The $100,000 Listed Just Now Quality Handicap (1300m) features a class field of fillies and mares including Team Snowden’s Sydney raider Ravi.

She was originally set to run in the Listed Colin McAlpine Memorial a fortnight back in the Sunshine State but was scratched after drawing wide.

This weekend marks her delayed Queensland debut and the four-year-old daughter of Redoute’s Choice is drawn a treat in barrier six.

Her hoop at home Kerrin McEvoy travels for the ride on the weekend as he competes in the State Of Origin series and has been aboard for all three of her spring runs this campaign.

Ravi finished a first-up second to Heavens Above at Rosehill in the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) in September before heading south to Melbourne.

There she ran a close fourth to Sheidel in a Group 3 over 1200m at Caulfield on October 8 before a fifth to Flippant down the Flemington straight on Melbourne Cup Day.

She has won a subsequent trial at Randwick over 1050m and is at her pet distance in the Just Now Quality having had three starts for two wins and a third over the metres.

“Ravi isn’t a Magic Millions horse but there are some black-type races for her in Queensland,” Snowden, who trains in partnership with his father Peter, told AAP.

“She showed she was up to stakes class with some handy runs in the Melbourne spring without winning in Group Three and Listed company.”

Eagle Farm is currently rated a Soft (5) but with storms continuing to roll into Brisbane, Snowden said the prospect of a Heavy course was a non-issue for their mare.

Ravi has had one run for one win on a Heavy 10 track at Rosehill over 1200m in June of this year.

“She has been ticking over and won a trial at Randwick in handy fashion,” Snowden added.

“Also if you get more storms she has won on a Heavy 10 so that is no major worry.”

The Snowdens also have Gibraltar Girl lining-up in the rescheduled Listed Mode Plate (1200m) on Saturday after the race for three-year-old fillies was called off last Saturday due to ill-light.

The field for the set weights sprint is down to 16 starters and the consistent Manhattan Rain filly Gibraltar Girl is at $6 for the win through Ladbrokes.com.au in an open market.

She has won two of her three starts this time in and comes off a close second over 1200m at Rosehill on November 19.

There she carried 59kg and the drop back to 56.5kg puts her in a nice position on Saturday with Jeff Lloyd to ride her from barrier six (in from seven).

“Gibraltar Girl stayed in Queensland at the Gold Coast [after the Mode Plate was cancelled],” Snowden said.

“She missed work on Tuesday because of a storm but we were able to work her on Wednesday morning.

“She is a light filly and missing last week won’t have worried her.

“She is also nicely bred so we are keen to get the owners some black type for her and Queensland looks the ideal place.”
