One of the standout cards of the Brisbane Winter Carnival will take place this afternoon as eight races are contested on 2016 Doomben 10,000 Day; highlighted by the Group 1 feature race for sprinters.

It is a fine day in the greater Brisbane metropolitan area today and the Doomben racing surface has been rated a ‘Good 4’ following only 14mm of irrigation throughout the last seven days.

Talented runners have been drawn to all eight races on 2016 Doomben 10,000 Day, which will officially get underway with the running of the Ambassador Travel BM95 (1200m) at 12:07pm local time, and will conclude with the Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) at 4:37pm.

A number of notable runners will line up for Race 1 on 2016 Doomben 10,000 Day this afternoon, including Le Val, Fine Mist and Pago Rock.

The day’s first black type race; the Listed Queensland Day Stakes (1200m) has drawn a number of classy three-year-olds including Mogador and Barood, while Group 1 winner Amicus will make her return alongside the likes of La Passe and Ghisoni in the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m).

Some of the Carnival’s best stayers have been confirmed in the Group 3 Premier’s Cup (2200m) field including Junoob and Real Love, while JJ Atkins favourite will contest his final lead-up run in the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) at 2:42pm.

Amovatio, Worthy Cause and Mighty Lucky appear in a particularly talented field for the Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup (1615m), while Azkadellia, Delectation, Fell Swoop and Dothraki will duke it out in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m).

2016 Doomben 10,000 Day will officially draw to a close when some of the leading prospects for the Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m) line up for the Grand Prix Stakes at 4:37pm.
