Glenlogan Park Stakes Ideal for Traveston Girl

Tony Gollan is pleased with the condition of smart mare Traveston Girl, and is confident she is well suited to the conditions of Saturday’s Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) at Doomben Racecourse.

Traveston Girl has been a strong and consistent performer for Gollan through her entire racing career since first appearing on course competitively in 2014; posting a commendable four wins and as many minors through seventeen appearances.

Having performed particularly well when second to Doomben 10,000 favourite Azkadellia in an Eagle Farm barrier trial last week, Gollan told AAP the Flying Spur mare’s first-up run for tenth in the Listed Silk Stocking (1200m) on the Gold Coast should not be considered leading into the 2016 Glenlogan Park Stakes.

“Azkadellia was very good in the trial but a lot of people didn’t realise that Traveston Girl slipped at the start and virtually went down on her chest,” Gollan said.

“She just wasn’t suited by the Gold Coast or the way the race was run.

“The trial since shows she is getting back to her best.”

Traveston Girl has been charged with overcoming the wide and somewhat awkward barrier 11 in the Glenlogan Park Stakes, but Gollan does not believe the draw will have much bearing on her performance.

“I know we are drawn wide but I don’t think that is bad thing for Traveston Girl. She can roll along from out there and prove hard to beat,” Gollan said.

Annoucing herself to the extended Australian racing community through an impressive three-year-old campaign during the 2014 spring, Traveston Girl ran fourth in each of the Listed Cap D’Antibes Stakes (1100m) and Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) before placing second in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m).

Returning in 2015 for third in the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m), Traveston Girl appeared on track for another standout preparation when third in the Listed Juanmo Stakes (1200m), but only managed mid-pack finishes in her next two starts.

Resuming in late spring for third in the Vetica Capital Plate (1200m), the mare out of Milande placed fifth in the Group 3 Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (1400m) before posting consecutive wins in the Listed Recognition Stakes (1600m) and Listed Brisbane Handicap (1640m).
