Peter Moody’s impressive colt Anacheeva has won the headline race at Caulfield this afternoon, scoring victory ahead of a classy field of fellow three-year-olds in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m).
Winner of the Caulfield Guineas Preview last start, Anacheeva made it three consecutive wins this spring with a dominant performance today.
Jumping away well from the inside barrier with Luke Nolen aboard, Anacheeva settled back and let Run For Levi set the pace from the front of the field.
Some early drama in the Guineas saw Rekindled Interest badly checked and nearly knocked over.
One of the top fancies Toorak Toff was caught out very wide, but was given their chance to make up ground on the straight with odds-on favourite Ilovethiscity on his back.
Toorak Toff gained the lead briefly but couldn’t finish it off, weakening to finish fourth.
Over the final few hundred metres it was Anacheeva and Run For Levi battling it out in a thrilling showdown.
Anacheeva sat right on the speed and was able to power home, beating Run For Levi ($31) who put in a big run, with David Payne’s Masquerader ($10) in third and much improved with the addition of blinkers today.
Anacheeva has now won four of their six career starts, today’s prize money boosting their total career earnings to over $789,000.
Moody will now either aim Anacheeva at the Group 1 Coomore Stud Stakes on Victoria Derby Day, or spell him in preparation for the autumn.
In our earlier Caulfield Guineas Preview, we named Anacheeva as a horse that could win at juicy odds and punters that took our advice enjoyed a nice payout from [sportsbet] today!
The next race on the card is the final Group status race of the day, the Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m) where Queensland filly Military Rose is the odds-on favourite.
With two races still left at Caulfield today, make sure you get the best odds by betting with [sportsbet] and finish off the day with a big win!
