Leon Davies‘ brave Tamworth galloper and multiple country cups champion Prussian Secret has broken down after suffering a fetlock injury and will be unable to contest Thursday week’s Grafton Cup.

The $150,000 Listed Grafton Cup (2350m) became a goal for King Of Prussia gelding Prussian Secret after the rising seven-year-old finished an eye-catching third behind upset winner Glow Heart and runner-up Grey Assignment in the $50,000 Ipswich Provincial Cup (2150m) in Queensland on June 18.

However a Grafton Cup bid for the recent winner of the Quirindi, Wellington and Gunnedah Cups has been ruled out for Prussian Secret who will instead be sent for a spell.

“He has chipped bones in his fetlock,” Davies told the Northern Daily Leader.

“It’s a shame, it would have been nice to have a crack at the Grafton Cup.

“But it could have been worse, it could have been a tendon.

“Luckily we caught it early but he’ll have to go out for three to six months.”

A dominant force in the provincial cup showdowns around the country, aside from their trio of wins this prep Prussian Secret has also saluted in earlier features including the Coonamble Cup, Armidale Cup and Guyra Cup last year.

Davies remains hopeful that his stable ace Prussian Secret can make a full recovery and return late this year or early next to continue adding to their record that sits at 11 wins from 31 starts for close to $174,000 in prize money to date.

As well as handful of country track triumphs, Prussian Secret also boasts a city win when they defeated a quality field in an 1812m handicap at Eagle Farm last November.
