Black Cavair to Win TJ Smith Stakes by Record Margin

Officially crowned the best racehorse in the world, Peter Moody’s superstar mare Black Caviar is not only being heavily backed to take out tomorrow’s $1 million Group TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) but to post her 12th consecutive victory by at least an emphatic four length margin.

Black Caviar

Black Caviar is tipped to win the TJ Smith Stakes by at least four lengths

Bel Esprit four-year-old Black Caviar has effortlessly beaten home all of her rivals in four Group 1 races in four starts and is seeking her fifth elite level win tomorrow.

The ease in which the mare has destroyed her rivals has been so impressive that bookmakers are offering exclusive markets on Black Caviar’s winning margin.

On Emirates Stakes Day at Flemington last November, Black Caviar secured her maiden Group 1 victory in the Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) where her closest rival Star Witness finished four lengths back.

This season all three of her Group 1 runs and wins have been equally as impressive as Black Caviar won the Lighting Stakes by three and a half lengths, the Newmarket Handicap by three lengths carrying 58kg and the William Reid Stakes last start by one and three-quarter lengths.

Her form, class, talent and obvious superiority have seen Black Caviar installed as the odds-on favourite in the TJ Smith Stakes betting and the punters not shying away from her short price.

“We opened Black Caviar at $1.22, which despite already being a short price, punters thought the odds were generous and have since backed her into $1.18,” Sportsbet.com.au’s Haydn Lane said.

“We’re happy to take on favourites in big races, but she’s the exception to the rule. Something massive would have to go wrong to not see her in the winners’ circle yet again.”

Trainer Peter Moody expressed the same sentiments.

“Facts and figures tell you the opposition can’t beat her without something going amiss, that is just plain and simple,” Moody said.

With the queen at a firming price in the markets, however, there has also been plenty of money rolling in on the Black Caviar exotics bookmakers around the country have on offer.

Although it is the champion’s first Sydney start, Black Caviar is at shorter odds ($4) to win the TJ Smith Stakes tomorrow by four lengths or more than she is to win by any lesser margin.

The form of this wonder mare speaks for itself.

To date Black Caviar has won her 11 races by a collective 36 and three-quarter lengths.

In the TJ Smith Stakes field she is set to face 10 brave rivals.

Of these she has methodically beaten six at least once before including $14 second favourite Hay List.

“I don’t want to sound bullish about it but the majority of these horses she has met and beat them comprehensively,” Moody said.

Shoot Out

Shoot Out is one of the 10 rivals taking on Black Caviar in the TJ Smith Stakes on Saturday

The four TJ Smith Stakes hopefuls yet to feel Black Caviar’s wroth on the turf are Shoot Out, Triple Honour, Shellscrape and Alverta.

Of these, Shoot Out is the shortest-priced to cause an upset sitting as an equal $17 chance along with Crystal Lily in the TJ Smith Stakes odds.

Resuming for the season, the John Wallace-trained Shoot Out won the AJC Derby here 12 months ago and is due to jump from barrier two tomorrow with jockey Corey Brown in the mount.

“He’s running into Black Caviar so it’s going to be extremely hard to beat her,” Brown said of Shoot Out’s chances.

“Brisbane is his main aim and I’m really looking forward to getting back on his back.”

The 2011 Darley TJ Smith Stakes is due to jump at 2:20pm (AEST) as Randwick Race 5 tomorrow.
