2023 Champions Mile Results: Pride Of Jenni All-The-Way Winner
Pride Of Jenni secured her second Group 1 success in the space of seven days with a brilliant front-running performance to lead from barrier to box and knock off a field of the country’s best milers in a thrilling 2023 Champions Mile victory.

The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained mare broke her Group 1 maiden at Flemington on Derby Day with Declan Bates giving her a lovely ride from barrier 16 of 16 to post an upset in the Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) against her own kind.
Today on Stakes Day she was forgotten in the markets taking on elite level company with the likes of Mr Brightside, Alligator Blood and Fangirl all better fancied to salute in this year’s Group 1 $3 million Kennedy Champions Mile (1600m).
Bates rated the now six-year-old daughter of Pride Of Dubai to perfection again however playing perfectly to the conditions and getting to the front after she was quick out.
While the rest of the field took the sit, he rolled the eventual winner in front and took control leading at a really strong tempo.
They did their best to run her down but in the end Pride Of Jenni was just too good and too tough leading from go to whoa in a spectacular upset at $13 through Ladbrokes.com.au.
Lindsay Park’s last start Cox Plate runner-up Mr Brightside got up into second just ahead of last year’s champion Alligator Blood who raced a little flat early eventually finishing third while Fangirl ran fourth.
It was a masterful performance from the stable, horse and hoop.
“Unbelievable,” co-trainer Ciaron Maher told Racing.com.
“I think it’s just a combination of a lot of things.
“She’s an older mare now they need to be very seasoned to race in that style that she does.
“To win one on Saturday I thought we’d have a throw at the stumps (again today) but she’s run as well or better.
“Dec bates just spot on. He just really suits her.
“What can you say? She’s phenomenal.”
Looking ahead to next year Maher said there could be some pretty big targets in store for Pride Of Jenni including the $5 million The All-Star Mile (1600m) before a potential UK bid at Royal Ascot.
“The All-Star Mile and maybe Royal Ascot,” he said. “The Queen Anne (1600m).”
