Gypsy Goddess Heads 2022 Queensland Oaks Field & Odds

An outside barrier has not deterred the bookies from keeping the David Vandyke-trained Gypsy Goddess at the top of Queensland Oaks 2022 betting ahead of the official final Group 1 race of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

A capacity field of three-year-old fillies faces off in this season’s Group 1 $700,000 Channel 7 Queensland Oaks (2200m) including the autumn’s ATC Oaks runner-up Gypsy Goddess.

Kiwi-bred and trained on the Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, the talented daughter of Tarzino chases her first win since a first-up Eagle Farm victory by 3.5 lengths over the mile back in March.

She went to Sydney after that and was eye-catching when third to Fangirl in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (1850m) at Newcastle, and second on a Heavy (10) Randwick track in the Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m).

Last seen running second again in the wet at the Gold Coast in the Listed Bracelet over 1800m on May 7, Gypsy Goddess has been kept fresh since ahead of her shot at Queensland Oaks glory this weekend.

Jockey William Pike retains the ride, but has work to do on the favourite who drew out in barrier 22.

She remains to of the post-field Queensland Oaks odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au however paying a firm $3.80 to salute for the punters.

The danger occupying the second line of Queensland Oaks betting, and the only other filly at single-figures in the markets, is Aravene at $4.60.

Prepared by Caroline Jennings out of Flemington, the lesser-known Victorian raider is airborne of late having taken her record up to three wins from six starts.

The daughter of Fastnet Rock comes off back-to-back wins interstate in easier grade having carted 59kg to victory over 1800m at Sandown on May 11 before an impressive three-length romp home at Rosehill in the wet over 2000m on May 21.

A genuine staying type sure to see out the distance without an issue, Aravene reunites with jockey Brett Prebble and is drawn to win in gate six.

At a more generous quote of $10 on the quick seven-day back-up is the Jerome Hunter-trained The Roses winner Barb Raider.

An in-form daughter of Group winner Rebel Raider, the bonny brown was good backing-up from her Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) second in Adelaide to narrowly take out the Group 2 The Roses (2100m) here last weekend.

There was nothing in the finish, but she was brave late holding off the challengers once into the clear and has Craig Williams aboard again this weekend in her Grand Final.

Youngstar (2018) was the last filly to complete The Roses – Queensland Oaks double, however the former is usually run a week earlier over 2000m at Doomben giving Barb Raider a tough task this winter.

The filly that beat Barb Raider home in Morphettville’s Australasian Oaks in late April, the Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained Glint Of Hope, is also in Queensland Oaks contention this weekend.

With over a month between runs, the Japanese-bred daughter of Deep Impact returns in gate 14 with Daniel Moor continuing associations.

Proven in elite grade, Glint Of Hope looks potential value at a current quote of $16 through Ladbrokes.com.au to complete the interstate Australasian Oaks – QLD Oaks double last achieved by Egg Tart (2017).

Shorter in the markets the other best fancied fillies in Saturday’s feature race are Nick Ryan’s close The Roses runner-up Belle Savoir ($11) and the Godolphin-raced Honeycreeper ($11) last seen running sixth in the ATC Oaks during The Championships.
