2020 Winx Stakes Betting: The Bostonian Firms To Favourite

The money is coming for Tony Pike’s first-up specialist The Bostonian to add another Group 1 win down under to his record with the Kiwi raider now co-favourite in Winx Stakes 2020 betting for Saturday.

The Bostonian is one of a capacity field of weight-for-age hopefuls tackling the opening elite level of the new racing season down under with a class line-up in the Group 1 $500,000 Winx Stakes (1400m) set for Royal Randwick.

Drawn the rails with barrier one for jockey Jay Ford, Pike’s talented son of former New Zealand champion Jimmy Choux was at Winx Stakes odds of $9.50 earlier in the week through Ladbrokes.com.au.

Having done the form, the punters are coming for The Bostonian in Winx Stakes betting and he is now at $6.50 along with all-in Caulfield Cup favourite Master Of Wine to kick off his spring with a win.

The now six-year-old has won six of his seven previous first-up assignments and at his only other Randwick run to date, he won the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) back in March.

His latest start produced a close second behind Dreamforce, a $7 shot for the Winx Stakes from a wide barrier this weekend, in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m).

Back to 1400m fresh The Bostonian, who also won the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 – Kingsford Smith Cup double in Brisbane last year, looks a huge chance with track conditions to suit in Sydney.

The John Thompson-trained Dreamforce has also been steadily backed to win first-up despite drawing barrier 16.

The eight-year-old is out to atone for his second last (13th) at the track on April 18 in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) when things went amiss post his George Ryder success.

Thompson remains confident the horse can bounce back despite the wide alley as the track firms ahead of Winx Stakes Day.

“I’ve got to say, he begins like a rocket and makes his own luck and he’s won from the outside draw a few times so he can overcome those things,” he told RSN Radio.

“He gets through it but he’s definitely more effective on top of the ground. The drier the better. But it looks like it’s not going to be wet Saturday.

“He’ll run very well. He’s ready to go.”

Also at a current quote of $7 to win is the best of the Chris Waller contingent, Verry Elleegant, who is now the trainer’s best hope of a sixth victory in the event after he opted to scratch one-time favourite Funstar in favour of a Group 3 run on the same day.

Rounding out the single-figure hopes in the latest markets is then the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Coolmore Classic – Queen Of The Turf Stakes double winner from the autumn Con Te Partiro backed right in from $17 to $8.50 after drawing barrier two.

Con Te Partiro will be ridden by last year’s winning hoop Tim Clark (Samadoubt, 2019), the American-bred daughter of Scat Daddy coming in with a solid first-up record (7:3-0-1).
