2020 Skyline Stakes Field & Odds: Prague Tipped to Stay Undefeated

Nine colts and geldings, seven of which have previous race experience, make-up the field for this autumn’s Group 2 $200,000 Skyline Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Chipping Norton Stakes Day.

The Skyline is a key lead-up into the Group 1 $3.5 million Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill in March and offers the winner a ballot free ride into the world’s richest race for two-year-olds.

While Dance Hero (2004) was the last horse to complete the Skyline Stakes – Golden Slipper double, the form out of the Group 2 has stacked up in later Group 1 events plenty of times.

Last year Microphone (2019) won the Skyline before a Golden Slipper second and subsequent win in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) later that autumn.

This season it is Prague tipped to take out the Group 2, the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained youngster paying $2.70 in the latest Skyline Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au.

On debut the horse took out a 1200m maiden at Canterbury by two lengths before rising in grade to win again in the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes (1100m) at Randwick by nearly the same winning margin.

Prague should appreciate getting back up to 1200m for the Skyline Stakes where two-time Golden Slipper winning jockey Tommy Berry comes aboard.

In the latest all-in Golden Slipper 2020 odds online, Prague is at $15 and is sure to firm should he come out and win this weekend.

The danger occupying the second line of Skyline Stakes betting at $4.20 is the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Aim out to atone for a failed run last time out.

The well-bred Star Witness colt won his opening two career starts in December before heading to the Gold Coast for January’s $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m).

There he finished four lengths back eighth behind the winning filly Away Game who went on to win the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m) before her close fourth in the Blue Diamond Stakes results last weekend.

Co-trainer Peter Snowden has prepared two previous Golden Slipper winners with Sepoy (2011) and Capitalist (2016) and Aim is at $26 in futures markets to hand him a third ahead of the lead-up run this weekend.

Team Snowden are also represented in the Skyline Stakes field by debutant Argenteus ($7.50), the Written Tycoon colt drawn the rails for his first ever run on the back of a winning Randwick trial where he beat Aim to the line in a 1050m hit-out on February 17.

The other best in betting chasing the Golden Slipper ballot exemption are Postcode ($7) and Mission River ($8) drawn in barriers five and six respectively.

Sydney’s leading lady of racing Gai Waterhouse chases a record-breaking seventh Golden Slipper success this season and co-trains Slipper hopeful Postcode in partnership with Adrian Bott.

The Vancouver colt has had two starts for two seconds at Randwick last October and is out to break his maiden status first-up in the Skyline Stakes after two eye-catching lead-up trials.

Mission River has also had two starts for two second place efforts, the Gerald Ryan-trained Redoute’s Choice colt last seen crossing 1.3 lengths off Supreme Idea in the Listed Lonhro Plate (1000m) on February 15.
