Markets are heating up for Saturday’s The Heath 1100 Stakes 2017 at Caulfield Racecourse with updated odds on the sprint feature led by Sheidel.

Lindsay Park’s smart six-year-old mare is one of a dozen short distance gallopers set to face off in the Group 3 $150,000 The Heath Stakes (1100m) on Memsie Stakes Day on the weekend.  

Drawn a treat in gate three with internationally performed hoop Craig Williams to take the mount, the daughter of Holy Roman Emperor races for the first time since her 11th when just over four lengths beaten by the winner Secret Agenda in Adelaide’s Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) in early May.  

She has enjoyed a recent seven length trial win leading-up to her new season return as the mare looks to add to her nice first-up record (6-3-1-1). 

The fresh flyer also loves the Caulfield track boasting three wins and a second from four previous starts at the course.  

A genuine 1100m sprinter, Sheidel has also won five of her seven runs over the distance she is first-up over on the weekend including her Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) win back in late February.  

All the nice stats and form lines on Sheidel have her sitting top of The Heath 1100 Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $2.60 for the win. 

Occupying the second line of The Heath Stakes betting this season at $4.20 is the also resuming Voodoo Lad in gate seven with Brad Rawiller in the saddle.  

Victoria’s best Darren Weir saddles-up the six-year-old I Am Invincible gelding who from five previous resuming runs has enjoyed a trio of wins and two seconds.  

During the autumn Voodoo Lad ran second in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) down the Flemington straight and was far from disgraced when fifth to Chautauqua in Randwick’s Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m). 

His latest start on April 15 was a seventh when under three lengths off Tivaci in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m), a run he can improve on fresh over less metres.  

The only other runner under double figures is Crystal Dreamer paying $9 to beat this hot field of spring gallopers.  

Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra train the consistent Stratum five-year-old who has a 50% winning strike rate at Caulfield and who was last seen winning at Flemington over 1000m back in May.  

Looking for value in the markets the standouts shape-up as the Robbie Laing-trained So You Think four-year-old So Si Bon ($12) who ran third to Gingernuts in the Rosehill Guineas during the autumn, Perth raider Malibu Style ($12) who won the Bel Esprit Stakes at the track / distance in April and early firmer Legless Veuve ($14) drawn well in gate four.
