Chris Waller’s multiple Group 1 winning mare Fangirl will make her delayed spring return sitting near the top of the 2025 Memsie Stakes odds for Melbourne this weekend.

The $10 million earning daughter of Sebring was originally down to kick off her seven-year-old season in last weekend’s Winx Stakes but was scratched from the event, eventually won in historical fashion by her Cox Plate winning stablemate Via Sistina, due to a Heavy (10) track.

Fangirl will instead return to the races at Caulfield on Saturday in the Group 1 $750,000 Memsie Stakes (1400m) having her first start at the track.

She was last seen collecting her fourth career Group 1 in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes over the mile at Randwick on April 12 and has had two solid trials to bring her on fitness-wise ahead of her latest prep.

While she is yet to have a start at Caulfield, her 1400m strike rate is excellent (9:5-1-2) and she has won four of her previous nine first-up assignments putting her in good stead in this year’s Memsie.

Master horseman Waller has won the Memsie just once before back in 2015 with Boban but is predicted to pick up his second trophy with Fangirl heading the markets at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Another Wil is the Caulfield specialist in the Memsie Stakes field chasing his sixth win from eight starts at the track this weekend!

A one-time favourite in the markets, Fangirl has eased out to the second line of betting now at $5 through Ladbrokes.com.au.

She is drawn barrier five and has Mark Zahra coming aboard for the first time as she makes her Caulfield debut.

The new leader in Memsie Stakes betting is the Ciaron Maher trained Another Wil into $4.50 through Ladbrokes.com.au.

Unlike Fangirl, Another Wil is a genuine Caulfield specialist with the six-year-old son of Street Boss having won four of his six starts at the track including the autumn’s Group 1 CF Orr.

His record at the 1400m distance is also imposing (7:5-2-0) while he is another first-up flyer in the field with three wins and a second from his four fresh starts to date.

After beating home Mr Brightside at this track and trip in the Orr back in February he went on to run a game fourth in the All-Star Mile before finishing sixth with 56.5kg in the Doncaster Mile behind Stefi Magnetica during Randwick’s ‘The Championships’.

Mr Brightside meanwhile won the Memsie two years ago and ran second by a narrow margin behind Pinstriped last year.

The veteran eight-year-old son of Bullbars is back for his third straight run in the event racing fresh off two very good Flemington trials.

He is out to atone for a failed stint in Hong Kong last summer when, after a win in the Futurity and second in the All-Star Mile, he travelled to Sha Tin only to run dead last (13th) in the Hong Kong Champions Mile.

Word from the Lindsay Park stable is the old warhorse, who has amassed an impressive $17.3 million in career earnings from his 44 starts ahead of his return, has come back in terrific order still showing a great zest for racing.

Mr Brightside is at a current quote of $5.50 to win from gate nine with regular rider Craig Williams in the saddle again.

The horse is out to become the dual champion of the race on non-successive years since Sir Boom (1996 & 1999).

The other best fancied in the current Memsie Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au is Tony Gollan‘s Doomben Cup champion from the winter Antino at $6.

The Kiwi-bred son of Redwood enjoyed a terrific prep last time in completing the Hollindale – Doomben Cup double in Queensland.

The now seven-year-old was fourth in the Memsie 12 months ago and races at the Caulfield track for the first time since his 6.5 length romp home in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) last October.

In an open field full of depth, a further two runners are also at single-figures to salute first-up for the spring with now five-year-old Tom Kitten ($7) stepping out for Anthony & Sam Freedman for the first time and Matt Laurie’s flying daughter of Alabama Express Treasurethe Moment ($6.50) who has won her past eight starts.

Tom Kitten, winner of the All-Star Mile last prep, was last seen running a brave third to Via Sistina at WFA in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) as a four-year-old.

He presents a more furnished horse now and will be partnered by Ben Melham form a good gate four to kick off his campaign that should ultimately lead into the Ladbrokes Cox Plate on October 25.

Treasurethe Moment meanwhile was outstanding during her three-year-old campaign collecting a trio of Group 1 trophies including both the VRC Oaks and Australian Oaks titles.

She may be a proven long-distance star, but the now four-year-old is also two-from-two at 1400m and unbeaten at Caulfield so there’s money coming for her to kick off where she left off and extend her winning streak to nine straight.

The 2025 Memsie Stakes is set to run as Caulfield Race 9 at 4:45pm (AEST) on Saturday’s 10-race card.
