The first of the key Group 1 Flight Stakes lead-up races takes place at Royal Randwick as part of Saturday’s bumper Winx Stakes Day card with a talented line-up of young fillies to face off in the Silver Shadow Stakes 2025 field.

The Group 2 $300,000 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) is the opening leg of the Princess Series of races during the spring for three-year-old fillies.
The second leg is the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) at Randwick a fortnight later followed by the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) and finally the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) run on October 4 on Epsom Day.
Current favourite in Silver Shadow Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au to win is Agarwood – an undefeated daughter of Wootton Bassett from the Waterhouse/Bott yard.
Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott have prepared two of the past four Silver Shadow Stakes winners with Swift Witness (2021) and Autumn Ballet (2023), and they look to have a very nice chance again this spring.
Agarwood has won her opening two career starts by a combined margin of nearly five lengths having saluted at Warwick Farm and Randwick back in May.
Her latest at this track and trip sees her proven over the 1200m after she handled a Heavy (9) course to put a dominant margin on her rivals in a two-year-olds handicap.
She has looked the goods in two subsequent winning hit-outs and comes from the right stable to win again this weekend for the punters.
Agarwood has Heavy track credentials and with the predicted wet track that’s a big plus for the current $2.70 favourite through Ladbrokes.com.au.
In an open top three, the two major dangers looking at the latest Silver Shadow Stakes odds online are Bjorn Baker‘s resuming Group 1 placegetter Within The Law ($4.20) and the early market mover Savvy Hallie ($4) with the fitness edge.
Lucky Vega filly Within The Law was huge as a juvenile winning the Group 2 Sweet Embrace before things went amiss for her in the Golden Slipper when, early in the race, she was spooked, made contact with the running rail, and dislodged jockey Jason Collett.
She was quick to atone in April however running third in the Group 2 Percy Sykes behind Tempted at Randwick and then second last start when narrowly denied by Nepotism in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes over a mile.
With previous winning form fresh and her elite level experience, Within The Law shapes up as a genuine chance again on Saturday from barrier two with Collett back in the saddle.
There’s early money meanwhile coming for Savvy Hallie from the Hawkesbury stables of Brad Widdup.
The consistent and improving daughter of Hellbent was runner-up in the Percy Sykes in the autumn at big 20/1 odds before returning in her three-year-old debut at Newcastle on August 14 to run her rivals ragged.
Thriving on a Heavy (9) track she broke her maiden status in style putting over five lengths on the next best over the line in the 900m sprint as the odds-on favourite.
She is back up notably in grade second-up this weekend but gets conditions to suit, is a proven mudlark and has Jay Ford continuing associations.
Another first-up contender getting a bit of love from the punters is the Peter Snowden trained Memo ($9.50) who is the last of the single-figure fancies at time of publish.
The daughter of Capitalist chases her first Randwick win at her fifth start at the track looking to atone for her Percy Sykes eighth at her latest.
The Magic Millions 2YO Classic runner-up from the summer has been trialling well ahead of her return, is a Group 3 winner, and benefits from the booking of Kerrin McEvoy once again but will be tested on the Heavy track.
The 2025 Silver Shadow Stakes is set to run as Randwick Race 6 at 2:35pm (AEST) on Saturday’s 10-race card.
