Caulfield Track Report – 17/08/2019

  • Rail: Out 10m Entire Circuit
  • Weather: Fine
  • Track Type: Turf
  • Track Rating: Soft (5)
  • Irrigation: Nil
  • Rainfall: 3.8mm last 24hrs; 21.8mm last 7 days

It is a cool and sunny day in Melbourne today and with no chance of rain across the afternoon the current Soft (5) Caulfield track rating looks set to stay for the nine-race card.

With plenty of give in the ground and the rail out 10m the entire circuit, punters will be going over today’s P.B. Lawrence Stakes Day form guides looking out for the proven Soft track performers.

Melbourne racing at Caulfield kicks off at 12:15pm (AEST) and continues through until 5:15pm (AEST) for those sticking around to brave the chilly weather trackside.

There are three Group status races on the agenda plus the Listed $140,000 Regal Roller Stakes (Race 7 at 4:00pm) for horses eyeing a run in the opening elite level of the season – the Group 1 $1 million Memsie Stakes (1400m) back at Caulfield on August 31.

The opening Black-Type of the day is the Group 3 2019 Ladbrokes Vain Stakes (1100m) – Race 5.

There are two Vain Stakes scratchings with the Team Snowden-trained Aussie (4) and the Richard Laming-trained Condo’s Express (6) both out leaving just six colts and geldings in the Caulfield Guineas lead-up.

The fillies are up next in the Group 3 2019 Quezette Stakes (1100m) – Race 6.

The Quezette Stakes field also has had two come out with Brooklyn Hustle (5) and Seatonic (11) scratched from the race that features the return of Godolphin’s Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes winner Lyre ($3.80).

The marquee race is Caulfield Race 8 today at 4:40pm where a star-studded line-up of 11, including the returning Ladbrokes Cox Plate favourite Mystic Journey, do battle in the Group 2 2019 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m).
