Magic Millions 3YO Guineas 2018 Betting Update

Markets have remained relatively stable post-barriers with Pierata still the firm favourite in 2018 Magic Millions 3YO Guineas betting for this Saturday at the Gold Coast Racecourse.

The Gregory Hickman-trained Pierro colt was considered the big winner coming up with the inside barrier on Tuesday morning for the Restricted Listed $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m).

Reigning Melbourne Cup winning jockey Corey Brown is again booked to partner Pierata for the big summer showdown having been aboard for all but one of his seven career starts including a last start victory at Doomben on December 30 in the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1350m).

Pierata had over two lengths to spare on his closest rival that day and dominates the updated Magic Millions 3YO Guineas odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $2.45 to keep the form going.

The inside barrier one draw however could prove a tricky one to stay out of trouble from on the weekend at the Gold Coast track, opening up value in Magic Millions Guineas betting.

The latest markets on the lucrative event list three of the other runners under double-figures for the win including the $6 second elect Sasso Corbaro out wider in gate 14.

That barrier could become 12 with the two emergencies out and ace jockey Damien Oliver is booked to ride the flying All Too Hard filly from the Newcastle stables of Kris Lees.

Sasso Corbaro has had five runs for three wins and two seconds to date, her latest turf triumph an impressive three length victory over 1300m at Randwick on December 30 carrying 58.5kg.

She comes back notably in the kilos to just 54kg at set weights plus penalties on Saturday and could prove the value in the race.

Equal third elects in the markets at $9.50 are then Goodfella and Wild Heart both drawn favourable in barriers six and three respectively.

Bjorn Baker trains Snitzel colt Goodfella, a Group 1 performer who chases his first win since October and who is out to improve on his lead-up third to Pierata in the Vo Rogue Plate in Brisbane as a $21 roughie.

Wild Heart is a Hawkes Racing-trained son of Hinchinbrook who is out to frank the lead-up Wyong form having saluted in the Wyong Magic Millions 3YO & 4YO Stakes (1200m) last time out on December 21.

The other best fancied for an upset victory over Pierata in the Magic Millions Guineas 2018 are Hugh Bowman’s mount Calculated ($11) from the Chris Waller stables, the Jason Warren-trained Bel Sonic ($16) chasing a third win on the trot and early market mover Shogun Sun.

Shogun Sun has been backed in from $26 to $19, the Written Tycoon gelding prepared out of Eagle Farm by Kelly Schweida.

Last seen finishing an unplaced seventh in the Vo Rouge Plate after a tough run from wide in Brisbane, the dual Gold Coast runner-up is tipped for a better performance this weekend extending out to 1400m for the first time since the Golden Rose.
