Arbeitsam keeps punters happy with Rowley Mile win

Winning jockey Tim Clark had Arbeitsam ($1.40 favourite) quickly into stride for the outside barrier in the ten horse field and the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained four year old was never headed to record a one length win over Kingsguard ($14).

Third placegetter Reiby The Red ($21) tried hard in the straight to collect some of the minor prizemoney.

Today’s win in the Rowley Mile was Arbeitsam’s fourth from his last five starts and Bott said the tough campaigner would now be considered to run in the Listed $160,000 Wyong Gold Cup (2100m) at Wyong on September 1.

“Tim just took his time from that wide draw as he showed his early speed that he thought he would and he was able to just take his time in getting across to the front,” Bott said.

“He built into it nicely and showed a good turn of foot at the top of the straight and he was tough enough to hold on.”

“We will see how he pulls up today. We have another race in mind. We are thinking of backing him up in the Wyong Cup next week.”

“More importantly we are very mindful how long he has been up this campaign and also mindful of what is installed next campaign.”

Clark was able to dictate the race from the front although runner up Kingsguard did apply some pressure midrace but Arbeitsam was able to respond in the straight to claim the $84,750 winning cheque.

“He got into a good rhythm. He has had a long preparation, some pretty hard racing and he was still tough enough and fought it out strongly,” Clark said.
