2017 The Roses Tips & Odds Update

The Doomben Roses 2017 runs in Brisbane on Saturday as a key lead-up to the Queensland Oaks, our insider betting tips and the updated odds on the three-years-old fillies’ feature found below.

It is a top class field assembled for Doomben Race 6 on Doomben Cup Day, 15 fillies left in the mix for the $175,000 Group 2 The Magic Millions Roses (2000m) after the early scratching of #15 Blanco Cara (1).

Heading The Roses odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are Darren Weir’s last start Group 1 Schweppes Oaks runner-up Kenedna ($3.20) and the Chris Waller-trained Gold Coast Bracelet winner Dawn Wall ($3.40).

Both have genuine winning claims, but with the possibility of a Heavy-rated track there could be value outside the dominant duo in The Roses betting.

After a brave second in the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) a fortnight back, So You Think filly The Pinnacle ($7.50) looks like she’ll enjoy the extra distance this weekend and she’s proven in the wet.

Oklahoma Girl ($9) is also at single-figures after some good lead-up form from the Waller-trained daughter of Fastnet Rock who is undefeated on Heavy tracks.

So will Kenedna and Dawn Wall battle it out for the win or is there an upset The Doomben Roses result pending?

Our 2017 The Roses Trifecta Tip is #1 Candika from #5 Oklahoma Girl and #6 The Pinnacle

1st

#1 Candika ($11)

Candika looks the value in this especially on the rain-affected going. The local Steven O’Dea-trained daughter of Danzero has won three of her past five starts and ran third in the other two. She won the Listed Princess Stakes over the Doomben mile in April before a third to Dawn Wall in the Bracelet. She’ll relish getting back to her pet track on the weekend where she’s got killer form (8-4-0-2). Seeing the distance for the first time, but she’s the Doomben specialist drawn well and is proven on Heavy going.

2nd

#5 Oklahoma Girl ($9)

The money of the Waller girls is on Dawn Wall after her impressive Gold Coast Bracelet win, but with the rain in Brisbane the consistently progressive stablemate is the value. She has won two of her last three runs before a third over 1800m last time out at Rosehill in open age company. Back against her own kind here will suit, she looks like she’ll see out the distance and she is two-from-two on Heavy going so the wetter the better.

3rd

#6 The Pinnacle ($7.50)

Plenty of boxes ticked by this Peter & Paul Snowden-trained So You Think filly who is bred for the distance. Yet to win over further than 1400m, but the second in the Gold Coast Bracelet showed enormous potential. She is drawn ideally and will be even better suited at Doomben.
