Black Heart Bart wins second G1 with Memsie Stakes victory

The result never looked in doubt with a hot speed up front from Charmed Harmony ($21), Brad Rawiller had Black Heart Bart ($2 favourite) travelling like a winner as far out as the 800m mark.

Charmed Harmony strung the field out coming to the home turn and once Rawiller pulled Black Heart to the centre of the track in the straight, the Darren Weir trained sprinter was always going to collect the prize.

“it worked out perfectly I thought,” Weir said.

“The plan was to be the one one or the one two and he landed in the one two with the hot speed and he built into it great and I loved the way he ran through the line.”

The Lindsay Park trained Rising Romance ($17) produced a first class effort to run second with the winner’s stablemate Mahuta ($8) filling third spot.

Black Heart Bart claimed his first Group 1 victory when he won the $500,000 Darley Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on May 21 and was having his first run back since running second to Under The Louvre in the Group 1 $1.5m AAMI Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm during the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

Weir has set out a Spring Carnival plan for Black Heart Bart that will lead to a start in the Group 1 $3m Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 22.

‘The owners are very keen to go to the Cox Plate so we just have to follow a path to that,” Weir said.

“He is a pretty straight forward horse to train, and that is the way he races as well.”

“He gives his all and it was great win today.”

Today’s $300,000 first prizemoney cheque took Black Heart Bart’s bank balance way past the $2 million mark.
