Thirteen runners remain in contention for Saturday’s Group 2 QTC Cup (1300m) at Eagle Farm following this morning’s scratching of leading contender Artlee; offering punters great value from a betting perspective.
The Team Hawkes stable has been in great form through recent weeks, and they are set to be offered a great chance of success in Brisbane on Saturday via Kaepernick; who remains outright $3.50 favourite in QTC Cup betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
Running a close second in the Listed Hinkler Handicap (1200m) in a hit-and-run mission on the Brisbane Winter Carnival last year, Kaepernick won the Quest Moonee Valley BM90 (1200m) and ran third in the Listed Caulfield Village (1200m) most notably in spring.
Having resumed this time for success in the Listed Ortensia Stakes (1100m) at Scone on May 14th, the Fastnet Rock gelding will need luck in running from barrier 12 on Saturday, but has been confirmed to be partnered by in-form hoop Christian Reith and will carry only 53.5kgs in the QTC Cup.
Spill The Beans carries excellent form into the sprint feature and remains sole occupant of the second line of QTC Cup betting at generous $6 odds.
Beating a classy field to the line in the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) first-up on February 6th, the Snitzel colt ran a credible fourth in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) on February 20th but was luckless when eighth in the Group 2 Arrowfield Sprint (1200m) on Day 2 of The Championships.
Returning to winning form in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m), Spill The Beans finished an agonizingly-close second in the Scone Guineas (1400m) on May 14th.
Drawn ideally in barrier 3, Spill The Beans will have no trouble performing with only 53kgs in tow and will be partnered by Tim Clark on Saturday.
Snippets Land has continued to receive steady support in 2016 QTC Cup betting markets this week, and has cut into outright $6.50 third-favouritism.
Resuming this year for seventh in the Gardenia Handicap (1600m) at Randwick on February 6th, Snippets Land was floated north for a close second in the Listed Member’s Handicap (1600m) at Doomben on February 27th.
Leaving four weeks between runs before finishing fourth in the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude (1500m) on March 26th, the Snippetson gelding savaged the line for second in the Listed Prime Minister’s Cup (1400m) before taking out the Group 3 BRC Sprint (1350m) at Doomben a fortnight ago.
