Jockey Damien Oliver has posted an impressive fifth triumph in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) after steering talented filly Badawiya to success in the 2015 edition of the race at Flemington this afternoon.

Mick Price is consider a start in the 2015 Thousand Guineas for Edward Manifold Stakes winner Badawiya
Badawiya had finished outside the first three only once in five career starts leading into the Edward Manifold Stakes and appeared on track to add more success to her record when jumping well and settling in prime position within the field of 16, with cover.
Settling into a good rhythm and receiving an ideal run in transit, Oliver peeled the filly out upon rounding onto the final straight, who immediately responded when asked for an extra effort to pull out a near-three length gap when savaging the line in the clear of Sacred Eye and My Poppette.
Oliver produced a typically brilliant performance aboard Badawiya for success in the 2015 Edward Manifold Stakes and is confident the filly will have no issue continuing to improve in the lead-up to races like the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) in early November.
“She’s a nice filly this, really impressed me today,” Oliver said after the race.
“Settled mid-field, good position and relaxed really well. She showed some really nice acceleration when I asked her to in the straight.
“She beat a horse I ran second on last start and she won well. Any time the fillies can beat the boy’s you’ve got to take notice.
“The way she did it today, she’s only going to get better.”
Trainer Mick Price was thrilled with Badawiya’s win in the 2015 Edward Manifold Stakes, and revealed he will now seriously consider a berth in next weekend’s Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) for the daughter of Al Maher.
“She had a lovely run in the race there and it is an Edward Manifold, so it’s great,” Price said after the race.
“I suppose there’s pressure now over the next six days to say if she goes to the Thousand Guineas now with her or not.
“It is a Group 1 I suppose and you’re not going to get a lot of opportunities for her, so we’ll just have to see how the next six days unfold.
“She’s a very lightly-framed filly who tucks up, and I don’t know where she gets all her energy from but that’s just her.
“She’s probably only 420kgs, she’s a little mouse of a thing but just has a huge motor.”
