Kermadec is the 2015 Doncaster Mile Winner

Talented three-year-old Kermadec has posted an exceptional maiden win at the highest level at Royal Randwick this afternoon; charging through the middle of the capacity field to win the featured Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m).

Jumping from the gates brilliantly, veteran jockey Glen Boss settled Kermadic mid-pack, off the pace of early leaders Ninth Legion, Hooked and Rudy who set a reasonable pace away from the barriers and approaching the bending.

Rounding onto the final straight appearing to be blocked for a run, Boss calmly threaded the son of Teofilo through the middle of the field and locked in a fierce sprint-off with Japanese raider Real Impact; poking clear in the final 100m to win one of the Autumn Carnival’s headline races in only his eighth competitive appearance.

Boss posted a sixth victory in the Doncaster Mile in partnering Kermadec to success this afternoon and was thrilled to repay trainer Chris Waller and team for offering him the ride.

“I’m really lost for words right now. This is probably the most special one,” Boss said after crossing the line.

“Given the opportunity to ride what is a beautiful colt. From the time I got onto his back in the enclosure I felt very confident.

“He just came round here with a bit of swagger about him and he just oozes sexy class this horse, it’s amazing he doesn’t have a better record than he has because he just gave me an amazing feel when he let go.

“I was galloping where there was just no room; we were pushing through gaps … he was brave enough to do it for me and still pick up and sprint when I asked him.

“That was a soft victory; he’s a very, very good colt.

“Thank obviously the Waller team to give me an opportunity to ride him. I know he’s got a light weight and probably a lot of blokes can’t ride him but they threw it my way.”

Waller was elated with Kermadec’s 2015 Doncaster Stakes win, particularly after the colt fell an agonizingly-close third amongst open company in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) a fortnight ago.

“It’s an unexplainable moment,” Waller said.

“He obviously proved it today but it won’t be the last one he wins.

“It’s irrelevant now (George Ryder Stakes result) because he’s won his race now and being a colt he’s got a bright future ahead.

“Only made possible when you’ve got a great team of staff behind me, great riders and it’s just an amazing feeling to be a part of it.”

Waller has now saddled five winners of the Doncaster Mile, including the three most recent editions of the headline race.

Punters who backed Kermadec to win the 2015 Doncaster Mile with Ladbrokes.com.au have been paid out on generous $8 odds.
