There is plenty going on in the world of racing this weekend including the biggest Sydney Spring Racing Carnival race day – Epsom Handicap Day – taking place at Royal Randwick.

It’s an all-stakes-race program in Sydney on Saturday with a bumper three Group 1 races headlining the crack nine-event card.

Add to that a double shot of Group 2 racing, a Group 3 plus a trio of Listed features and you’ve got yourself one massive day on the punt to enjoy!

Kicking off the day are two juvenile races, one for the boys and one for the girls, where every one of the youngsters engaged are unraced making it a tough start for punters.

Things quickly heat up in the third however with import Masked Marvel leading the betting for the Group 3 Craven Plate (2000m) where their rivals include Newcastle Cup winner Winning Glory and Honorius.

Elite level racing happens as early as 2:05pm (AEST) with the first of the three jewels on the Epsom Day crown running as Race 4 – the $400,000 Group 1 Coolmore Flight Stakes (1600m).

Peter Snowden’s dual Group 1 winner Guelph heads the field and markets for this three-year-old fillies feature and will likely win this before also taking out Melbourne’s Thousand Guineas Wednesday week.

The other two Group 1’s then happen later in the arvo with the day’s marquee race, the $500,000 Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) scheduled as Race 7 at 4:05pm (AEST).

It should be a cracking edition of the mile classic too with Guy Walter’s duo of Toydini and Streama both top fancies in a field that features plenty of upcoming talent including the Gai Waterhouse-trained Ecuador, as well as some more established performers including Chris Waller’s dynamic trio led by Boban.

Bringing things to a big finish is then Race 9 at 5:25pm (AEST).

The punters may be getting weary but don’t miss the $400,000 Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) with its bumper field of spring staying stars.

Top fancies include a dual winner over the distance back in France Prince Cheri, plus Waller’s Brisbane Cup winner on the rails Moriarty.

But with the favourites and last start winners having a poor record in The Metropolitan, an upset could be on the cards so check out the roughies in those markets for sure.
