Mick Price’s Victorian visitor General Peekay tops a full field of three-year-olds engaged to face off in the Adelaide Guineas 2013 at Morphettville’s South Australian Derby Day this Saturday.

One of a capacity 16 starters plus a single emergency engaged to face off in Morphettville Race 6 at 2:55pm (local time) – the$80,000 Listed Adelaide Galvanising Adelaide Guineas (1600m) – General Nediym gelding General Peekay is after an Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival double having won the Listed HC Nitschke Stakes (1400m) at Morphettville Parks last start.
On Saturday they get a far better gate than the 13 of 14 they jumped from to win that Listed event as they have drawn barrier five with Paul Gatt retaining the ride.
Also coming via the HC Nitschke Stakes is runner-up Couldn’t Agreemore for local trainer Phillip Stokes.
The Not A Single Doubt gelding has also drawn well for the Adelaide Guineas with barrier seven as they look to win just their second race after a first-up success at Gawler back in March.
There are two other last start winners also engaged with the Danielle Smith-trained Diplomatic Waltz (barrier four) who broke their maiden status at Cranbourne last month over the mile, and John Sadler’s in-form Flemington runner Reckless Assassin (barrier 14) after their third on the trot following victories at Yarra Valley and Sandown in April.
Other notable hopes then include local Bernardini gelding Essay Raider who was a close fourth in the HC Nitschke Stakes last start, the Robert Smerdon-trained Electric Fusion who is a Group 1 performer having run fifth to Fiveandahalfstar in last year’s Victoria Derby, and Anthony Freedman’s Red Ransom filly Kazanluk last seen running fourth in the Group 3 Schweppervescence Stakes (1800m) at this track on April 13 from barrier 16 of 16.
