Brown is free to ride in the Stradbroke, despite copping an eight meeting ban

Melbourne Cup winning jockey Corey Brown was suspended for causing interference to both Varenna Miss and Zingaling in the QTC cup.

Stewards asserted that Brown, who was aboard Kenny’s World, allowed his mount to shift in at the 800m, causing interference to both Zingaling, who finished third and eventual winner Varenna Miss.

Brown was suspended for a total of eight meetings, which will commence after the Stradbroke Handicap meeting. He will return to riding on June 22, meaning he will be able to ride in the Group One Winter Stakes.

South African born jockey Glyn Schofield was also suspended for a total of eight meetings for his ride in the Queensland Oaks.

Stewards alleged that Schofield allowed his mount Fibrillation to shift in shortly after the start, which caused Hidden Kisses and Crafty Lady to be checked.

Schofield’s suspension will also start after the Stradbroke Handicap meeting and he will be allowed to ride again on June 22 also.

One man who will be relieved that both men are free to ride on Stradbroke Handicap day will be Brisbane trainer Robert Heathcote.

Heathcote has two of his stable stars nominated for the Stradbroke, and the two jockeys he has engaged are Corey Brown and Glyn Schofield.

Corey Brown is down to ride the in form Woorim, while Schofield will partner the Group One placed Buffering.

Glen Colless was another who received a reprieve until after Stradbroke day.

Colless was suspended for a total of six meetings, due to start on the Monday after the Stradbroke, for causing interference to Skating on Ice when aboard Steel Zip in the Daybreak Lover Handicap.

Hugh Bowman also copped a four meeting ban for his ride in the Daybreak Lover Handicap.

Bowman caused interference to Skating on Ice at the 300m mark and will be able to return to riding on June 16.

Bowman is due to leave for Royal Ascot the day after the Stradbroke Handicap.

The suspension means he will be unable to ride on the first day of the Ascot carnival, however he is free to ride for the remainder of the Ascot Festival.
