Bart Cummings’ emerging star Precedence has been hit with a 1.5kg penalty for the 2010 Melbourne Cup after his classy win in the $250,000 Group 2 Moonee Valley Cup (2500m) on Cox Plate Day today.

The weight penalty lifts Precedence up from 39^th to 29^th on the order of entry for the 150^th Melbourne Cup, set to run at Flemington on Tuesday November 2.

With the news that Monday’s third acceptances for the Melbourne Cup will not feature the likes of Vigor (27^th), C’est La Guerre (21^st) and Zabrasive (16^th), this allows enough room for Precedence to line-up in the 24 horse Melbourne Cup final field.
