El Divino Tops 2017 Redelva Stakes Field & Betting

Darren Weir has a number of exciting chances lining-up in Adelaide on Saturday including his smart colt El Divino in the Redelva Stakes 2017 field.

Rounding out the early Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival lead-up meet as Morphettville Race 8 at 4:52pm (local time), this season’s $110,000 Listed Redelva Stakes (1100m) has attracted a capacity field of three-year-old sprinters.

Drawn wide in barrier 11, into 10 if the emergency I’ll Decide fails to gain a start, is the Group 1 performed son of Snitzel El Divino.

The youngster hasn’t won a race since the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) over subsequent Golden Rose winner Astern in Sydney during April last year, but is well-fancied to return to winning form in his first South Australian run.

He was last seen finishing just over five lengths back 13th to Sheidel in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) in Melbourne on Blue Diamond Day and will relish the easier assignment on Saturday.

The Redelva Stakes is a huge drop in class for El Divino and he currently sits as the equal $4.60 favourite in betting at Ladbrokes.com.au with the undefeated Alice Springs raider Desert Lashes.

A winner of all seven of her career starts to date, the Lisa Lefoe-trained daughter of Blue Diamond winner Reward For Effort is well-bred and living up to her pedigree.

She first travelled to Adelaide in December and is unbeaten from two runs at the Morphettville track ahead of Saturday for her maiden black-type run.

Last time out she put nearly three lengths on her closest rival over the Redelva Stakes track and distance, the speedster deserving of her spot at the top of the markets even after drawing wide in barrier 13 (into 12).

Close second favourite in the latest Redelva Stakes odds at $5.50 is Motown Lil charged with overcoming the outside alley as she chases a third win on the trot.

Daniel Moor rides the Robert Smerdon-trained Victorian visitor who comes off back-to-back 1000m wins at Sandown-Hillside.

The latest had the daughter of Sebring carrying 58.5kg to a two and a quarter-length success sin a Benchmark 70 against the older mares, form that could stack-up on the weekend as she chases her first win over further than 1000m.

Early money is coming in for Benz who has been backed in from $9 to $7 to win another stakes race after success at Caulfield in February’s Group 3 Zeditave Stakes (1200m).

Locally prepared by Gordon Richards, the Bushranger gelding has previous winning form at Morphettville and will push forward from the gate to sit up on the speed by jockey Jake Toeroek.

Rounding out the single-figure hopes at $9 each are Legless Veuve and So You Too drawn better in barriers three and six respectively.

Stuart Webb’s Pins filly Legless Veuve is a Group 2 winner in Melbourne and is out to atone for her last place effort (16th) to Hey Doc at Flemington on March 4 in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m).

Representing the Morphettville-based training duo of Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas, So You Think gelding So You Too hasn’t won since October last year but shapes-up as a big top three chance.
