2016 Mode Plate Field & Betting Odds

The card closer at Eagle Farm Racecourse on Saturday is the Mode Plate 2016 for three-year-old fillies where a host of in-form runners are set to face off in the George Moore Stakes Day support act.

Due to jump at 5:24pm (local time) as Eagle Farm Race 9, this year’s $100,000 Listed Peak Sports And Spine Centre Mode Plate (1200m) originally drew a full 17 starters plus two emergencies.

There’s been two early scratchings from the starting line-up – #8 Two Shoes (18) and #12 Lubiton (10) – and the first emergency #18e Isla Tristana (2) is also out of contention.

That leaves 16 hopefuls and the narrow favourite in the updated Mode Plate betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au is the John & Chris Meagher-trained Savanna Amour ($5).

She’s being kept safe by the bookies despite her wide draw (17), from which she’s likely to go back before a late charge home, and was last seen winning over 1100m at Doomben on November 5.

That was her second career success from four starts and Saturday marks her Black-Type debut.

Savanna Amour has had just the one previous start at Eagle Farm and since her latest victory at Brisbane’s sister track she’s won a Deagon trial over 1050m with her hoop for Saturday James Orman in the saddle.

There are five other fillies joining her under $10 in the current Mode Plate odds including River Racer at $6.50 also with a double digit alley (14) to overcome.

A consistent daughter of Hidden Dragon, the Les Ross-trained River Racer has run second in both her previous Eagle Farm starts and has strong form at the distance (4-1-2-0).

She’s a promising type also up in class and deserving of a shot after her second over 1000m at the track on November 19 against a number of similar rivals.

Her last start conqueror Tiyatrolani also backs-up in the Mode Plate field on Saturday, the Tony Gollan-trained Captain Sonador filly at $8 to score successive Eagle Farm wins.

She has been tested in tougher company running fifth to Winning Rupert when under two and a half lengths off the winner at Doomben back in mid-May’s Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m).

Having won three of her five career starts she will also take benefit from her first look at Eagle Farm when winning a fortnight back with Jim Byrne, aboard again on the weekend from a gun gate four draw, in the saddle.

Shorter than her in the markets however at $7 each are Eckstein and Gibraltar Girl whose lead-up form has also been eye-catching.

Trained by Kurt Goldman out of Goulburn, I Am Invincible filly Eckstein chases her third win on the trot after back-to-back 1200m victories in Sydney in October.

She’s been freshened-up since ahead of her first trip to Brisbane where Heather Poland is booked for the ride, her fourth aboard the Sydney visitor.

Also up from Sydney in the Mode Plate, the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Gibraltar Girl is a Manhattan Rain filly whose last start produced a second at Rosehill a fortnight back.
