2016 George Moore Stakes Too Good To Refuse

The George Moore Stakes 2016 is the confirmed next-up Brisbane Summer Racing target for the Desleigh Forster-trained Too Good To Refuse after his impressive stakes win at Eagle Farm Racecourse over the weekend.

Going out the $4 second favourite in betting for the $100,000 Listed Keith Noud Quality Handicap (1200m), Forster’s local Rothesay stallion more than lived up to his price displaying his usual brilliant turn-of-foot.

Ridden by veteran Queensland hoop Jim Byrne the in-form stallion enjoyed his maiden Black-Type victory and first at Eagle Farm with a nearly two length victory in the quality handicap sprint.

On the line Too Good To Refuse, improving off a last start second over 1100m at Doomben on November 5 where he ran a final sectional in under 33 seconds, had 1.8 lengths to spare over the Brian Smith-trained Hard Spun six-year-old Sony Legend ($13).

A half-length further back for third to finish off the Keith Noud Quality Handicap trifecta was the beaten Tony Gollan-trained favourite Most Important ($3.80) who is still yet to win at the track from six starts.

Winning hoop Byrne was confident going into the race after what Too Good To Refuse did late last time out and was happy to galloper showed the same nice late effort at the roomer Eagle Farm course.

“This is a really good horse,” he said post-win on Saturday.

“I watched that first-up replay time and again, just to make sure what I felt was real.

“Horses just don’t run those kind of sectionals that he did that day and I knew coming here on the bigger track it was going to take a very good horse to hold him out.

“It was a run that most horses just couldn’t produce. But this horse can.”

Byrne admitted however that he wasn’t quite as confident just after the midway point in the run on Saturday.

“They went so hard and I was worried at the half mile,” he said.

“He was off the bridle and I had a few concerns, but I just hoped he could tack on coming to the turn and once he did, it was a foregone conclusion he would run over them.”

Forster was also over the moon with the Keith Noud Quality result and confirmed plans to back-up in a fortnight on December 3 returning to Eagle Farm for the $200,000 Group 3 George Moore Stakes (1200m).

“The best thing I did was give him a good spell after the winter,” she said.

“He had a long campaign and I asked a lot of him as a three-year-old.

“I could have gone to Melbourne for the spring, but I decided to give him a longer break and really target this summer carnival.

“I’ve done the right thing by him and he’s rewarded us today.”

After the George Moore Stakes Forster will continue on the Brisbane Summer Sprint Series path with Too Good To Refuse in the $150,000 Listed Lough Neagh Stakes (1350m) on December 17 at Doomben.

That will hopefully lead the 2014 Magic Millions Yearling graduate onto the 2017 Magic Millions Carnival at the Gold Coast in January.
