Early 2016 San Domenico Stakes Betting: Capitalist Odds-On

Unsurprisingly the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Capitalist has opened odds-on favourite in pre-field San Domenico Stakes 2016 betting for his delayed return on Saturday.

Capitalist

The Golden Slipper winning son of Written Tycoon was accepted for a first-up run last weekend in the weight-for-age Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m), but Team Snowden didn’t want the three-year-old to have a gut buster on the Heavy (10) Randwick track.

He was scratched from the race, subsequently won by stablemate Tycoon Tara, and saved for a Rosehill Gardens return this Saturday over a shorter distance in the $150,000 Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m).

The colt has won three from four to date, most famously taking out the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) on March 19.

This weekend the bookies are taking no chances with the 2016 Golden Rose Stakes-bound gun youngster despite the change of resuming runs, Capitalist sitting top of the all-in San Domenico Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $1.70 for the win.

Rosehill Racecourse currently sits at a Heavy (8) rating, but with no more rain on the cards this week and the track better than its counterpart at Randwick when it comes to drainage, there is every chance Capitalist will get Soft going.

There are three other San Domenico Stakes nominations currently at single-figures for the win including Star Turn ($5) prepared by Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes.

The Star Witness colt ran fifth to Extreme Choice in Caulfield’s Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (11200m) in February and sixth in the Golden slipper as a $41 roughie.

He’s got a touch of class about him, is a Black-Type winner at Randwick from last October, is a Group 3 runner-up and has won two recent trials including over 900m at Rosehill on August 2 ahead of his return.

The other best in ante-post San Domenico Stakes betting are the undefeated Gerald Ryan-trained Tango Rain ($6) and Team Snowden’s also unbeaten youngster Russian Revolution ($8) who is being kept safe in the markets despite the fact he’s all but been confirmed for the Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield this weekend instead to avoid the clash with stablemate Capitalist.

Manhattan Rain colt Tango Rain is two-from-two to date with his last win being a first-up success over 1200m at Canterbury, where he also won on debut the previous month, on July 23.

In that success on the rain-affected track, Tango Rain defeated the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Thronum home by over a length.

The runner-up franked the form running at Randwick last Saturday to win the Listed The Rosebud (1200m) in a narrow and gutsy upset over Mediterranean.

The value in early San Domenico Stakes markets meanwhile lies in the Gary Moore-trained local Sebring gelding Mount Panorama ($10).

The up-and-comer has had four runs for three thirds to date, the trio of placings as a two-year-old all in Group company.

His latest was a quarter-length effort behind Souchez at Rosehill on March 12 in the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) and he has been brought on since fitness wise with a winning Gosford trial over 800m on August 1.

Check out the current all-in San Domenico Stakes 2016 odds below, prices set to firm at Ladbrokes.com.au with the release of the final field and barriers on Wednesday.
