A line-up of Golden Rose Stakes hopefuls are nominated for The Rosebud 2016 at Royal Randwick on Saturday including Peter & Paul Snowden’s last start winner Mediterranean.

The $100,000 Listed The Rosebud (1200m) is one of two Black-Type races on the card for Sydney’s opening meeting of the new season along with the $175,000 Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m).

Following a non-traditional path to September’s $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) is the early favourite, last season’s Golden Slipper winner Capitalist.

The star youngster has his first weight-for-age run in the Missile Stakes, which attracted only seven early entries for Team Snowden, and sits top of futures Golden Rose odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $4.40.

His stablemate Mediterranean meanwhile is the shortest-priced of the new-season three-year-olds nominated for The Rosebud this Sydney Spring Racing Carnival paying $15 in early Golden Rose Stakes betting.

The nicely-bred son of Smart Missile has had three runs for one win so far, the victory coming last start on July 6 at Canterbury in the wet over 1200m as the odds-on favourite.

His earlier two runs were in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) and Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) back in the autumn where he ran fifth on both occasions.

Mediterranean comes into Saturday’s The Rosebud on the back of a 1050m winning Randwick trial and is sure to jump favourite in betting if accepted.

Among the 12 The Rosebud nominations this season is fellow Snowden-trained hopeful Quick Feet, one of four fillies entered to take on the boys in the quality handicap.

The daughter of Northern Meteor ran second in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) before her Golden Slipper ninth last start as a $101 roughie and also won a Randwick trial in her latest public appearance.

This year’s other The Rosebud nominated fillies are Lilac Lane, Jason Coyle’s Miss Beneteau and Omei Sword for Sydney’s record-breaking horseman Chris Waller.

High Chaparral filly Omei Sword is also a $15 hope in all-in Golden Rose markets, Saturday to be her first run since a ninth to Yankee Rose in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) from early April.

Another notable Golden Rose hope in The Rosebud mix this year is the Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes-trained Divine Prophet ($26).

The Choisir colt won a 1200m sprint at Kembla Grange last March before a brave third on April 16 at Randwick when only a length off the winner Prized Icon in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m).

Hawkes Racing have also nominated for the unraced Fastnet Rock colt Legendofoz.

Gerald Ryan has entered his recent Kembla Grange winning son of Duporth Uthred, while Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott combine with Snitzel colt Thronum who has won two of his three career starts to date.

Check out the full The Rosebud 2016 nominations below, the field and barriers out on Wednesday when Ladbrokes.com.au will also release their weekend racing markets!
