Jameka is the 2015 Crown Oaks Winner

Jameka has produced a brave effort at Flemington this afternoon to lead from start to finish and take out the featured Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) from a fast-finishing Honesta.

Jameka experienced a notable drift in betting markets leading into the 2015 Crown Oaks as a result of having previously not raced on a heavy track, but did her chances of success no harm when jumping well and leading the field past the post the first time.

Settling into a good rhythm and allowing Muzyka to take up the pace over the back straight, champion hoop Damien Oliver pressed the Myboycharlie filly forward rounding onto the final straight and took a one length lead from closest rival Ambience.

Continuing to find in the dying stages, Jameka punched on to the line to deliver trainer Ciaron Maher a second-consecutive win in the Crown Oaks, having saddled Set Square to victory twelve months ago.

“I’d just like to thank the team and the owners,” Maher said after the Crown Oaks.

“We’ve said all along she’s got that lovely, beautiful stride and rather than hold her up he thought he’d let her bowl along and really use it to her advantage.

“Full credit to him because he knows her well. He sat on her at track work one day and said she was an Oaks filly, and he was pretty right.

“She’s not really bred to get that trip but everything about her says she’s a nice stayer so she must have given him an amazing feel to press the button before the turn.

“He only had her pretty soft in front so I guess he backed himself and away they went.”

Oliver delivered a typically brilliant ride aboard Jameka for success in the 2015 Crown Oaks and was quick to lay all the praise on the training efforts of Maher and class of his talented mount.

“I thought no one would want to take it up and I wasn’t going to hesitate to be the one because I have a lot of faith in this filly’s staying ability,” Oliver said.

“She’s had a faultless preparation and she actually dropped the bit in front and I just stayed off the rail a bit and one came on inside her and it ended up taking it up.

“She was just going too easy a long way from home and I had to let her go.

“A lot of credit to Ciaron and all his staff. He’s mapped it out beautifully, nothing has gone wrong for her and we thought early she had Oaks written all over her and it’s great when a plan comes together.”

Punters who backed Jameka to win the 2015 Crown Oaks with Ladbrokes.com.au have been paid out generous $6.52 odds for success via the lucrative Best Tote or SP Plus 20% offer!
